A sick tribute appeared outside the New York City hotel where UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down by an assassin on Wednesday.
A balloon with a sign taped to it reading 'CEO DOWN' over the image of a smiling star and party poppers was found outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan after Thompson, 50, was gunned down there Wednesday morning.
The balloon was spotted as many Americans have joked about the CEO's death due to his company's track record of rejecting medical claims.
The same image on the balloon was also shared on former Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz's BlueSky account.
'People have very justified hatred toward insurance company CEOs because these executives are responsible for an unfathomable amount of death and suffering,' she wrote in a separate post.
'As someone against death and suffering, I think it’s good to call out this broken system and the [people] in power who enable it.'
In perhaps the most shocking post, Lorenz shared a news report about Blue Cross Blue Shield announcing it would not cover anesthesia for the full length of certain surgeries in some states.
She wrote: 'And people wonder why we want these executives dead.'

I was expecting more of a jazz funeral New Orleans style when they buried him.
Every penny they spend on his funeral is a penny that was taken from someone who was suffering because the insurance company refused to pay.
I think Health Insurance and Pharma leadership is starting to get the idea that they are as popular as herpes. Maybe they should quit being predatory reptiles?
the same leftists the weep when we execute murderers, love the fact that this poor innocent CEO was murdered.
Liberals are evil.
Go to Europe or Canada for Healthcare libs
Poor innocent CEO? Hahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahaha *gasping for breath* hahahahahahahahahahaha
I’m with you - he was doing a job. Would liberals walk into a restaurant and kill the chef because the prices were too high?
I’m guessing the killer was a guy who wanted to be a woman and felt all the rest of the policy holders should pay for his $150,000 ‘transformation’...
It is simply OK with them to shoot certain people in the back as they walk down the street.
You should read the comments over at DU.
Disgusting.
I wonder if she realizes there are 10s of millions who feel the same way about “Journalists”.
Ill wishing anyone is a very very bad idea no matter how “evil” you feel they are.
He was THE man responsible for unmeasurable human suffering, bankruptcy and death, as he denied justified claims to insurance his customers paid for. He was under investigation for massive insider trading. He made money off tranny surgery.
I’m not the type to celebrate him getting murdered. But he was a scumbag and his callous decisions lead to getting gunned down as he was walking into a meeting to brag how his depravity was raising the bottom line.
I have better things to worry about. This is just a curiosity for most people.
Well, Blue Cross is again now willing to pay for anesthesia all the way through your surgery, instead of cutting it off when a timer goes off. Because some beancounter without medical training in a cubicle decides how long the surgery should take.
Wrong. Anesthesiologists take advantage and surprise billing. BC was putting them on notice. But we have some Rainmaker characters on here unable to realize another side to this.
“ Liberals are evil.”
Quite a few people here on FR are lining up them.
The ghosts of those storming the Bastille and the 1918 Bolsheviks killing the Tsar have come back.
And I agree, there are things that need to be corrected .
Is that incredibly old Taylor Lorenz?

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield makes major U-turn following the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson
kill the rooster, scare the monkey...
And that justified the murder of a father?
UnitedHealthcare deployed AI that they knew was faulty to deny healthcare to elderly patients. The AI was known to have a 90 percent error rate. Imagine dying from something or being bankrupted because the insurance company you paid premium to for years knows you can’t fight back.
The guy who delivered karma to Brian Thompson with “Deny” “Delay” “Defend” engraved on it is an American hero. If he is caught, I hope Trump gives him a presidential pardon.
Don't look at Nancy Pelosi's insider trading deals and this guy being under investigation for it.
Don't give my that bullshit, the days are long gone where you can hide behind "I was just doing my job". Adolf Eichmann was "doing a job". And no, I'm not comparing this guy to Eichmann but illustrating the ridiculousness of your argument. Whether you think the guy was a saint or not, the fact remains that people are damned well fed up and tired of being screwed over by the predatory insurance companies and this illustrates how close we are to boiling over. Louis XVI ignored how pissed the people were also and ended up with an impromptu shortening. Corporations have become entirely too comfortable with screwing people over by "doing a job", we ignore the reaction to this guy's killing at our own peril. It's time to wake up.
