Hostage-taking has a long history in the Muslim world.
On November 27, 2024, at four in the morning in the Holy Land, the government of Israel agreed to cease attacking the Shiite Muslims in southern Lebanon. At the end of the speech explaining the plan to the people of Israel, PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel has a “sacred mission of releasing our hostages,” using religious language befitting a region famous for its religions.
Indeed, the oldest book still in use in the world, the Jewish Bible, contains arguably the oldest record of hostage-taking. Abraham, the progenitor of the Jewish people, had a nephew named Lot. Lot was living not in Sodom but nearby when an alliance of five communities warred against an alliance of four. During the fight, Lot was kidnapped (Genesis 14:14-15).
His kidnappers, who were spiritual forebearers of today’s PLO and other Muslim terrorists, carried him beyond Damascus. His uncle, Abraham, though the kindest man in the world that year, 1,713 BCE, was no wimp. He was the pastor of a community of hundreds who believed in him and his conception of the One G-d. Abraham chose 318 able-bodied males to race north with him. Once there, he divided his forces and, in a clever, night-time hostage rescue raid, routed the kidnappers and rescued Lot.

And let us not forget the thousand-year history in the Middle East of the misnamed “Barbary Pirates,” who were, in truth, not pirates at all. Instead, they were the official fleets of North African ports, all of whom flew not the black and white Skull & Bones but the green flag of Islam. That is, they were Muslims whose principal occupation was hijacking infidels, mostly Christians

Mohammad was a slave trader. This is part of the religion pf islam.
I understand that western slavery was a fraction of islamic slavery, and the slavers typically were some kind of muslims, too.
Israel is an outcropping of Western culture.
Generally it needs to be understood that there is a fundamental problem with Islam (which this article points out specifically regarding kidnapping and slavery). Not necessarily every Muslim is a problem, but the religion itself has issues.
These issues can be seen in their doctrine/scripture itself where in the Quaran speaks of striking people at the neck, deceiving them, enslaving them, levying extra taxes. Then there is the historical perspective where you see a consistent oppression of all those that are non-Muslims in nations/societies that become Islamic. Even the most liberal of Islamic societies as in Egypt and Turkey are essentially oppressive for those that are non-Muslims and live there, example Coptic Christians. There is the verbiage by their leaders, senior leaders, many of them, over many years who rationalize these behaviors. Bottom line is that this religion does not play well with anyone else because of their value system which using today's pop culture language would be called intolerant and exclusive.
Speaking of playing well with others, isn't it telling that there are examples of Jew, Christian, Hindu, Shinto, Bahia, Zoroastrian, Buddhist, living and working together peacefully around the world, but anywhere Muslims are injected with anyone else, you end up with problems? In fact, it does not matter if it's a more conservative or liberal society, in Africa, Asia, Europe or North America, you end up with problems. What should that tell us?
Especially Christians and Western society should be concerned. Why? Because we have philosophical ideas such as from the Enlightenment era which largely shape our society to this day and go against Islamic teachings. In Islamic society the justice system is not secular, Sharia is Islamic law. There is no freedom of speech, true freedom of religion, free expression of ones sexuality, feminism, pork, beer, spirits, nudity, porn, are all out of scope. In Western culture, what is the role of a Mufti, Imam, an supreme Islamic counsel? Western culture fundamentally threatens the power structures of Islamic society. Even the most basic concept of democracy only works as long as the outcomes are in step with Islamic teachings and values and do not threaten these power structures.
How do you accommodate Islam with western culture/society? You can't.
At a micro level I can find you many good Muslims: nice people, hard working, honorable. But at a macro level, this religion has a value system that is incompatible with nearly anyone else and it is naive to think that you're going to have large numbers of Muslims and Christians living together in harmony and peace for any amount of time. Conflict is pre-rogrammed and those policy makers that are responsible for bringing large numbers of these people to the West...
IMHO, what you are seeing today in Israel is the general acceptance of thought (at least for those in positions of power), that there will never be a lasting peace with the Palestinians. There can be peace with their national neighbors, even cooperation, since there are defined boundaries, a physical separation. But this idea of Arab and Jew living together in peace in and around (Gaza/West bank) Israel which still existed in the era of Rabin has ended.
Which brings us to today. Once you accept this new reality that a lasting peace will (((never))) be attainable or sustainable, and you love your country and your people who you put before all others (nationalist, not meant as a pejorative, I'm an American nationalist), you begin to take the sort of actions Netanyahu is.
I'm assuming this is the author.
He raises some good points in how the Barbary Pirates were actually under a green Islamic flag...
I like new facts and different (albeit realistic) perspectives which he provided.

State of this planet approaching 2025.
Reminds me of the sack on Baltimore Ireland in 1631. The people carried off to Morocco.

Sorry, the connection of “brief history” and “Muslim kidnapping” is an oxymoron. It was always done and is still being done, and yes the religion supports it; which is why there is no great outrage about it in any Muslim dominant country. For instance, in Pakistan today, non-Muslim girls are kidnapped and forced into marriages with Muslim men.
That is the best outline of the problems we Westerners have with Islam, which I‘ve ever read👍🏻
