A bystander to the early morning assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson said he feared he would also be shot as he witnessed the gunman fleeing the scene.
'I heard the shot, and I looked around and saw a guy with a gun,' the witness said. 'He shot three times and then he started running.'
He said he was 'scared' the gunman would turn on him as he was sat nearby in his car and watched 'the whole thing.'
It comes as shocking surveillance footage obtained by DailyMail.com captured the CEO's last moments as the horror shooting unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Thompson, 50, was seen leaving the hotel at 6:45am on Wednesday, when a masked assailant draws out a gun with a silencer and shoots him in the back.
After Thompson, the head of America's largest health insurance company, stumbled away from the attacker, the gunman follows him and continues firing into the CEO as he hit the ground.
The assassin fled the scene and escaped into Central Park on a bike, with the NYPD releasing chilling images of the assassin to aid the search, along with a $10,000 reward.
Witnesses said the suspected gunman was seen waiting for some time outside the hotel before the shooting, and knew which door Thompson was going to emerge from before opening fire.

Wow.
If I’d been there this would have been me talking to the press right now

100 to 1 they NEVER FIND THE KILLER!!
$10K seems a bit paltry for a reward.
The witness may want to keep a low public profile for now.
Do talk to the police , but don’t make it so easy for the killer to come back looking for your car, and you.
That’s it? Talk about chump change. This dude was a CEO for a major company and that is all they offer?
Do they really want to find the shooter?
It ought to be $10 million.
Maybe NYC has cut back on rewards due to unforeseen expenses elsewhere.
i’m thinking that someone like Uncle Junior was denied medical care ...
NYC, where the “Hits” just keep coming!
So who benifits from this?
Heirs, BOD, other companies?
His pre-existing condition of being a real a$$hole was terminated.
I’m not going to say it but yea.
Now they offering a 5 dollar reward to find the guy who did this?
Oh well. Sucks to be the next CEO of UnitedHealthCare
Also the description says the shooter had a creme jacket but it was charcoal grey or black.
$10k reward for a guy worth hundreds of millions?
For those of you who are asking questions, you’re asking the wrong questions and I have noticed that on many of these who-dun-it threads, the proper questions are never asked, until now ;-):
01. ) Who knew that he was going to be in N.Y.C. that day, hmmm? A disgruntled empolyee or U.H.C. customer? Not Likely.
02. ) Who knew that he was staying in the Hilton, hmmm? Same answer, not likely.
03. ) Who knew that he had just left the Hilton hotel at almost 7 in the morning, hmmm? Samey-same.
Inquiring minds want to know. Can you guess what I am thinking, hmmm? ;-)
I agree. Wife should be ponying up.
“$10K seems a bit paltry for a reward.”
You’d think United could afford a tad bit more,
I suppose there's the love triangle angle as well.
This was CLEARLY a contract hit. Imagine all the illegals in NY who would gladly MURDER SOMEONE for $100?
Light-skinned Hispanic?
I believe it is NYPD not United Health Care offering the reward. There is probably a dedicated budget for rewards and crime stopper tips.
I think they might. I heard he left beind evidence includes cellphone, water bottle, candy wrapper.
I think they might find him in short order.
