Mexico understands that an open border, the destruction of U.S. immigration law, illegal immigration, and emigration of millions of its own citizens to America are entirely in its own interests.
President-elect Donald Trump recently had a “talk” with newly elected Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum about the millions who have crossed through Mexico to enter the U.S. illegally.
Afterwards, Trump reported that their conversation went well, and supposedly both had agreed to secure the U.S. border.
But given long-standing, de facto Mexican policy to rely on and profit from an open U.S. border, it was not long afterwards that Sheinbaum claimed she had not been so accommodating.
Or, as she now put it of the Trump conversation, “I give you the certainty that we would never—and we would be incapable of it—propose that we would close the border.” And of course, she is right: Mexico never would wish for a secure U.S. border, although it is wrong that she is incapable of guaranteeing one should she choose to do so.
What, then, is going on?
Over the last half-century, Mexico has gradually, even insidiously, developed both a one-sided, asymmetrical relationship with the U.S. based on professed mutual benefit and yet sought to leverage America by claiming it is supposedly guilty for two centuries of oppressive treatment.
How does the strange U.S.-Mexico supposed co-dependence seem to work?
The Mexican government has traditionally seen the U.S. as an endlessly wealthy country, liberally governed, and more or less willing to listen to Mexico’s grievances of the sort that are common in asymmetrical partnerships.
About 60 percent of the Mexican people traditionally in polls have voiced a positive view of the United States, yet a surprisingly low number when considering the millions who try to cross its border illegally each year.

And there is all of that border wall material that Joe Biden sold as scrap metal.

I see that as a dereliction of duty.

“I give you the certainty that we would never—and we would be incapable of it—propose that we would close the border.”
That’s what the 25% tariff will ensure that you do, lady.
Shut it down and welcome some new people back as citizens...or ship the home: your choice.

The Mexican president’s father was a member of the Mexican Communist Party.
Kudos to the ever brilliant VDH for pointing out that our welfare from taxpayers to Mexican illegals winds up helping them send remittances to Mexico.
The cartels run Mexican government.
We must also tax remittances. 33%.
It’s a trillion (a T) dollars that leaves our economy tax free.
I believe the highest legal rate is the highest tax rate. So 33% or whatever it is.
Mexico Knows Exactly What It Is Doing
Someone tell me Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum isn’t receiving kickbacks from the cartels.
Oh never mind no since of wasting both of or time.
33%? A good start!
Not only do the Mexicans receive cash back from their sons that have moved north. They also get rid of a lot of uneducated people who can not find employment in Mexico. That are a drain on their economy.
It is not a blatant as when Cuba and Venezuela emptied their prisons and gave them one way tickets to the USA.
Yet, it is very similar.
The corporate employers south of the border get their choice of the best employees to work in the factories. Making auto parts and labor intensive/dangerous manufacturing processes.
The ones who can not find employment go north of the border where you can make more money BUT the cost of living is more expensive too.
It is not just because the cost of labor is cheaper. The other main reason is things that are dangerous to manufacture can be made there without the insurance/OSHA/liability required in the USA or Canada. For example, I once spoke to a major kitchen cabinet maker. They actually made all the doors/face frames in Mexico. Then they shipped them up to the USA to be assembled by Amish workers in a factory in the OH/PA area.
Same story with my dining room set. All the chairs were made in a factory in TN. The actual table was made in China. The chairs require much more craftsmanship than building the table.

Trump needs to tax remittances to Mexico to offset all of the services illegals use at taxpayer expense - medical care, housing, education system, which they scant contribute to.
Freeze remittances leaving the US to Middle and South America. See how that goes down. Huge benefit to American Citizens at the expense of our enemies and invaders. Try it for two months. See what happens.
