As I go to Thanksgiving dinner, I watch this 1994 serialisation, of the book.

I know I'm weird, flame away, it can't be worse, than Arlo Guthries, "Alices Restaurant"

King has written some great material (or had it ghost written for him). It’s something how he is such a jerk when it comes to philosophy and politics.

This one was much better than the recent one.

Pretty good cast.

But itโ€™s like no one has been able to capture the enormity of the book. I donโ€™t understand why they try to condense it into 3 episodes in the most recent one. They would need to double the length.

Great. Now I’ve go that song stuck in my head.

Could be worse, I suppose. Could be “I Don’t Want a Nickel”

The “good people” according to Stephen King:

An agnostic
A drug addict
A woman pregnant out of wedlock
etc.

No actual religious people. In King’s books the religious people are usually nutcases, as are gun owners. In his books there are very few in those two groups who are normal people.

You missed an obvious character. Mother Abagail.

I’ve read the book a couple of times actually. Saw the first series which wasn’t too bad with Gary Sinise.

Roger that. Hard to encompass the book.

"Itโ€™s something how he is such a jerk when it comes to philosophy and politics."

Yep, his public pronouncements show him to be a liberal moron, and yet a lot of his books have some traditional conservative themes, good vs. evil, rugged individualism, big government corruption, etc.

The book was great, it really was. The movie not so much. It was before King went completely off the rails

I watched this when it first aired. Not bad. But it’s hard for me now to watch or read anything by Stephen King these days. He’s such a leftwing nutjob.

“You missed an obvious character. Mother Abagail.”

Well, yeah, but she was kind of outside the main characters (in my opinion). None of the inner circle of main characters were the least bit religious, but they were “good”. This is the perspective of a typical liberal who truly knows nothing about Christianity.

The book had the old woman as very, very religious.

There were entire chapters dedicated to her. She was THE voice of God in this whole good vs evil tome.

Yes, some of Kingโ€™s earlier books were good and I enjoyed โ€œThe Stand.โ€ It was my favorite one of his.

I havenโ€™t read any of his stuff since the late 80s except โ€œ11/22/1963.โ€ I never could resist a time travel story.
