Great song. The link doesn’t work - wrong URL.
What was that ‘70, ‘71?
Love that song, it on the my personal top100 pool side songs collection here.
Apparently is was released in 1970 according to Wikipedia.
Never saw Mike Pinera that I recall.
I saw Iron Butterfly in 1969 and missed Mike Pinera by a year but that’s OK. The original Iron Butterfly guitarist captured that In-a-gadda-da-vida vibe well.
May Mike RIP.
Oh great I’m going to have that song in my head all night, that said RIP Mike Pinera.
At first it sounds like a ghost ship with a dead crew like in Salty Dog by Procol Harum, especially with the mermaid on a rock but reading the lyrics more closely it appears to be a call to follow them to a better life or way. I guess it could be either.
Belongs in Kramer’s book Astonishing Tales of the Sea.
Just read this the other day:
Ron Bushy’s drum solo was the inspiration for Ringo Starr’s drum solo on “The End” from the Beatles’ 1969 album Abbey Road. It was the last song recorded collectively by all four Beatles

Yeah Ringo didn’t want to do a solo but was persuaded to do it as I understand. Drum solos wasn’t his thing but I like what he did.
Mike Pinera used to be with a collection of old rockers called the Classic Rock All Stars. Used to do a lot of European touring. Saw Mike a few years in a row back in the late 90s at the fair in Roseville, CA. Even sold him and Jerry Corbetta some tie dye shirts...Ha! Those were the days. Of course I am still making and selling tie dye...
One of those classic one hit wonders.
Explorer: What is that sound? Drums?
Tribal Chief: Yes, drums steady, good.
Explorer: They've changed, they're faster now?
Tribal Chief: Yes, drums fast, very good.
Explorer: They've changed again, now they've stopped?
Tribal Chief: Yes, drums stop, very bad.
Explorer: Very bad? Why?
Tribal Chier: Next come bass solo.
You have here on this trip...
That was fun!
Oh, memories. That was our year in LA racing sports cars around the hills and playing songs like this on the radio at full volume.
The album was 1970.
Great song
I get this song and “I’m Your Captain” from Grand Funk mixed up all the time. Similar theme and from around the same time in the 70s.
