Kyiv’s Security Service salvaged the remains of the new hypersonic ballistic missile Russia fired at central Ukraine as it warned that Moscow would transform Ukraine into a “testing ground” for its bombs.
Charred fragments of the new Oreshnik missile were put on display for reporters on Sunday following its use last week against a military site in Dnipro.
The Oreshnik, Russian for hazel tree, appears to be based on Moscow’s RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile and is capable of carrying either conventional or nuclear warheads.
Several destroyed components of the rocket were recovered from the blast, including mangled wires and an airframe the size of a large snow tire.
“It should be noted that this is the first time that the remains of such a missile have been discovered on the territory of Ukraine,” an expert with Ukraine’s Security Service told the Associated Press.

You can regurgitate all the fake Rooski garbage you want - most are (in some cases were but are now out of commission, flattened, etc.) typical health / medical facilities of which type(s) there are dozens or more in any large (population) US state. Good grief, any doctor’s office or hospital that can analyze blood or pee for pathogens and so on is a “bio lab”, or they send samples to such labs on a daily basis.
Other labs were normal research and some were, ironically, part of a program to reduce risks from residuals from old biological weapons left behind by the Soviets. Obviously (to non-morons) you have to have pathogen samples stored to do such work.
The insinuation that there was some sort of biological weapons development program in Ukraine in recent years is even sillier than George Tenet’s WMD assertions: At least in Iraq what you had going on was a sort of fairly convincing rumor campaign by Saddam, meant to frighten his neighbors.
A question about THAAD: Does THAAD rely on single kinetic impactor missiles - the “shoot a bullet at a bullet” approach, or does it use a “shotgun” approach — essentially creating a small “cloud” of objects (say, tungsten balls) that the incoming missile runs into — the impacts disabling the incoming missile due to the velocity of the incoming missile itself?
And, can THAAD intercept the attacking missile before it deploys the individual submunitions? If not, dealing with 36 independent submunitions at the same time seems quite difficult.
Yes, but the Biden Administration has repeatedly stressed that a an actual confirmed (limited) tactical nuclear attack by Russia on Ukraine would NOT trigger a US nuclear response, but instead we would make a devastating response by conventional means. I assume that means taking out vulnerable Russian military assets, but of course simply wiping all Russia’s refineries would potentially be on the table, for one example. So much of the Black Sea Fleet is out of commission that I don’t know if removing the rest of it (fairly easily accomplished) would be considered sufficient response.

The interesting thing about the present (present!) situation is that the introduction of 10k or so Nork troops was a major escalation. The response (allow deeper missile strikes into Russia, but in a very limited area and at a VERY limited number of targets with a very limited number of missiles supplied) was, really, a very weak response.
Then Russia responds with “hazelnut”: a far less effective weapon even if it was equipped with conventional warheads than if Russia had simply fired back with a few dozen smaller conventional missiles, which are more accurate and would also be cheaper.
Yes, “hazelnut” is most likely nuclear capable, or will be shortly, but, point is, Russia has already fired THOUSANDS of nuclear capable missiles into Ukraine. Yes, some get shot down, but, some get through. Certainly, most would get through to Dnipro, simply because Dnipro is not adequately (air) defended. Therefor, the implication is always there: Russia could easily destroy Dnipro with missiles it has already used in great numbers, simply by equipping a few with nukes. A Russian response to the ATACMS and Storm Shadows attacks near Kursk could just as well be a heavy conventional raid on Dnipro, with a hint “we could have tossed in 4 nukes”.
Pretty clearly, firing off “hazelnut” is just psyops for use by the Poooty tools to frighten the poorly informed. It’s also confirmation (as if any was needed) that treaties with Pooty’s Russia are useless.

It’d be very interesting to graph NATO countries’ defense spending over the last 30 years as a % of their GDP, vs. Russia’s defense spending over the last 30 years as a % of their GDP. This would somehow need to be tweaked (pretty big tweaks!) for defense spending not really directly relevant to NATO - the major items there including US’ expenditures in the Middle East and Indo-Pacific. Also, some countries’ military budgets have a sizable chunk of said budgets actually going to what amount to social-programs-by-any-other-name.
Such a graph would clarify much, and render a whole lot of garbage “noise” spouted to the landfill.
Pulling the data together would be a significant task, I must admit. But, I do know the US is at near historic lows of defense spending, since WW2, as a % of GDP.
