At the time The Bedford Incident was produced, Harris was best known as the producer of three of Stanley Kubrick's films. The two parted ways when Kubrick decided to make Dr. Strangelove as a satirical black comedy, rather than a dramatic thriller, but Harris remained focused on developing a serious nuclear confrontation film, and The Bedford Incident was released less than two years after Dr. Strangelove.

NATO needs to give it up and not fire another single missile into Russia.
“Fire one”
Never liked Bookem’ Danno that much.
Dear God! I just watched that again and scared the bejeebers out of myself!
The videos I saw of that limited use of the system were impressive, if you ask me. NATO and its connected international countries should take heed of that.
Potier and Widmark were perfect. Serious actors in a serious setting. Wally Cox was in it-comedian.

When watching the film of the Orenschik missile struck Dnipro is was six waves of six munitions each or 36 munitions total sticking at supersonic speeds like something out of Star Wars or Dune. NATO and America were given a warning 30 minutes before launch and after launching the missile took 15 minutes to target. That means NATO in America had roughly 45 minutes to prepare and shoot it down and they did NOT intercept the missile. I hope the mad clowns running the West for the next 60 days can stop their madness.

When the Bedford detects a Soviet submarine just off the coast of Greenland, Finlander mercilessly stalks his prey into international waters and plays a waiting game after losing sonar contact in a field of icebergs, knowing the diesel-powered sub will have to surface within 24 hours to replenish its air and recharge its batteries.
The Soviet submarine is spotted by the Bedford’s radar when it finally pokes its snorkel above the surface. It was not seen first by the sonarman because he is having exhaustion-induced delusions. Schrepke reminds Finlander that his orders are just to escort the sub out of Greenland’s waters, but Finlander sends a message ordering the sub to fully surface and identify itself. When the order is ignored, Finlander runs over the snorkel. Munceford and Schrepke protest that Finlander is forcing the sub to fight, and Finlander orders Ralston to arm an anti-submarine rocket. He reassures Munceford and Schrepke that he will not fire first, but when he says that “if he fires one, I’ll fire one”, the fatigued Ralston just hears “fire one” and launches the rocket.
Before it is destroyed, the Soviet submarine launches four nuclear torpedoes. Although Finlander orders evasive maneuvers and countermeasures, the torpedoes continue to home-in on the Bedford. Finlander silently leaves the bridge, followed by Munceford, who frantically pleads for him to do something. The captain looks away sheepishly, and the Bedford and her crew are vaporized in an atomic blast, resulting in a mushroom cloud.

“one fired sir!”
Great film.
Screw Russia.
This might cause you a little amusement or concern. I was watching a Daniel Davis Deep Dive which featured a clip of that warmongering MIC whore, Jack Keene, being asked about the Oreshnik delivery system. He began babbling some nonsense but you see it in his eyes, his mannerisms, his Kramdenish Homina, Homina, Hominas.
It reminded me of the moment Finlander realizes what he has done.
The UK and British long-range missiles are not gamechangers.
The Russians will kvetch but focus on Ukraine.
Russia wants its Kursk territory back. It has about 56 days to get it back before Trump takes office. Trump will likely ask for and get an armistice.
Nor I, but James MacArthur was the perfect guy for that role.
I liked the old kraut navy officer who somehow survived the war and was along for the ride.
Richard Widmark was true to form as a totally unhinged psycho, this time in command of a nuclear-capable US Navy ship. One might consider it his masterpiece performance
Wow. This explains how wars can start by accident.
"Nuke 'em, Danno!"

John M. “Jack” Keane (born February 1, 1943) is a former American general who served as vice chief of staff of the United States Army from 1999 to 2003. He is a national security analyst, primarily on Fox News, and serves as chairman of the Institute for the Study of War...
...graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College and the US Army War College.
Keane served in the Vietnam War as a Ranger paratrooper, leading in combat as a platoon leader and company commander. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge and the Master Parachutist Badge. He later served in U.S. engagements in Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, and Kosovo. His commands include the 1st Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, 101st Airborne Division, and the XVIII Airborne Corps.
In 1991 Keane saved the life of David Petraeus during a live-fire exercise. According to Keane, Petraeus was shot “accidentally, standing right next to me, and I had to fight to save his life. He had a hole about the size of a quarter in his back and is gushing with blood, and we stopped the bleeding and got him on a helicopter and got him to a surgeon and so we were sort of bonded ever since that time.”
In January 2007, Keane and the scholar Frederick W. Kagan released a policy paper, “Choosing Victory: A Plan for Success in Iraq,” through the American Enterprise Institute that called for bringing security by putting 30,000 additional American troops there for at least 18 months.
Keane is a regular contributor to Fox News and is involved in a variety of business, think tank and charitable activities. He serves as chairman of AM General, the firm that produces the Humvee. In June 2016, Keane co-founded IP3 International (IP3), a nuclear energy consulting firm.
Keane is an advisor to the Spirit of America, a 501(c)(3) organization. He formerly served as a strategic advisor for Academi and is a former director of defense giant General Dynamics.
In November 2016, shortly after Stanley A. McChrystal declined the post of Secretary of Defense, Keane was offered an appointment to the post, but he declined, citing the death of his wife several months earlier. After Defense Secretary Jim Mattis resigned in December 2018, Trump again offered the job to Keane, who again declined.

You and I hope that’s the case.
We’ve got some insane people running the show right now. Not gonna compare them to Vlad... some would take it the wrong way...
Widmark was an interesting one. He made that one with Marilyn Monroe as a schizo which was good too.
Widmark played obsessed characters to the hilt. Finlander was extreme and a martinet to boot. Claims are he was different in person but he could sure play spooky. Scary movie. A little ship with the power to ignite a massive fire.

“I recommend that the ruling elites of the countries that are hatching plans to use their military contingents against Russia seriously consider this.”
