1) My windows 10 or now 11 did a windows update last night and somehow it completely lost Realtek audio so I no longer have sound. Tried downloading Realtek but no luck myself or a computer guy. Any suggestions, please.
2) Bought a new windows 11 and can't remember how to do anything. How do I put links to my favorite sites in a bar across the top of the screen so I don't have to search for them every time. There is no bar currently on the new computer.
3) I understand there is a way to get the old computer settings and whatnot transferred over to the new one but I don't think I ever registered it or it had any cloud hooey on it and I don't know a password to it but maybe it is somewhere.
4) Blah, why is my typing on FR is bold and can it be made regular typing? Sigh, I don't like changes except bringing back Trump.
I have realtek audio.. I would suggest removing the device in the device manager, then reboot and let it be rediscovered and the drivers re-installed.
This has worked for me in the past.
Many times upgrading software is in essence a fix for something that’s not broken. It requires learning how to use the new product and may require new hardware or technical adjustments beyond the user’s capabilities. Many businesses have caught on to this game, found it expensive to do the upgrades and retrain employees.
I am functioning quite well with Windows 7 and doing very well with antique software programs for what I do, and do well. And I quit security updates way back when MS tried to sneak Windows 10 in with an update.
I suspect someday I will go to W10, but never W11, for my understanding is that OS needs to go online or it deactivates itself.
Glad its workin now-
Speaking of magically starting to work, I did a macrium reflect clone of my dual boot drive, windows 10 and Linux mint- (both were offline) and went to plug it in and lost my Linux grub menu and could only boot to windows.
I spent days, hour upon hour trying to figure out how to get the grub menu back- to no avail. I even finally got up at 1 am last night and tried something else, for 3 hours- didn’t work, would not boot to grub menu. I knew Linux was there, but there was no getting to it
Anyway, long story short- I unplugged the drive, put my old one back in, went to bed. Got up this am and put the new drive back in to check on somehting I had thought of during the owning hours, and lo and behold the grub menu was back and could boot to Linux and windows
I have NO IDEA how or why it all of a sudden started working.
I hate computers lol
My attitude towards computers is exactly the same as Oddball's attitudes towards tanks ...
When asked why he wasn't helping his crew to repair the tank, he replied ...
"Oh, man, I just ride in 'em. I don't know what makes 'em work."
I know a little bit- just enough to get me in trouble trying things
How old is the computer?
Are you sure a BIOS compatibility check was done before the upgrade?
Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the browser - there should be an option to export your favorites to a file so they can be reimported with an upgraded browser?
If you’re using Edge, you may be able to tell it to import favorites from an older browser if it’s still on the machine.
Have you checked for upgraded drivers?
Lastly, is it possible to undo the upgrade or reload the original OS?
I have a nVidia chipset video card. I do manual updates for the video card driver. During the update process, I am given the option to install nVidia SOUND drivers. I leave this option unchecked, because I don't have nVidia sound hardware installed.
EVERY time I update the nVidia video drivers, Win10 AND Win11 dumps the Realtek audio drivers. I have to go in to Windows Device Manager, delete the "installed" nVidia sound devices (that I did NOT opt to install the drivers for), then scan for "new" devices. This brings back the Realtek audio, and I'm back in business.
This is a nVidia software problem, not a Windows problem.
