Jussie Smollett’s Conviction Overturned in Alleged Hate Crime Hoax

Jussie Smollett‘s conviction in an alleged hate crime hoax was overturned on Thursday by the Illinois Supreme Court.

The “Empire” actor was convicted in December 2021 of five felony counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly staging a hate crime against himself and was sentenced the following year to 150 days in county jail. In December 2023, his bid for an appeal was denied and it was ruled that he would have to serve his full sentence. He spent six days in jail while his appeal was pending.

In January 2019, Smollett told police he was attacked outside of his Chicago apartment building by two men who called him racist and homophobic slurs and placed a noose around his neck. After an investigation, the police alleged that Smollett had paid two acquaintances to stage the assault and a grand jury charged him with a Class 4 felony for filing a false police report. In March 2019, all charges were dropped after the state attorney reached a deal with his defense team. However, following controversy over dropping the charges, prosecutor Kim Foxx asked the state of Illinois to conduct a separate inquiry into the matter with a special prosecutor, who then indicted Smollett again in February 2020. In November 2021, the trial against Smollett began and he was found guilty in December.

I guess all we have left is everybody just stay away from this racist pig. He orchestrates hate crimes. At least this decreased the Illinois crime stats. One less hate crime too.

Essentially the Illinos Supreme Court said the state had to honor the BS deal that Soros-owned State’s Attorney Kim Foxx gave Juicy on the direct orders of Big Mike.

I don’t think he’ll like this outcome as much as he thinks.

well, he can always do a podcast with Dylan Mulvanney.

It’s pretty much a fair ruling
Like Weinstein in NY and Cosby ultimate decision there is some basis in justice

I know many here hate when law doesn’t give folks what they want

With Smollet is was kind of retrying him after a plea deal

Not saying it’s perfect but it’s got some justification

Yes, Juicy will always be best remembered as the butt of Dave Chappell’s jokes.

that wouldn’t last long. People resent seeing people get away with things; and it shows.

I’ll make the point there was not a plea deal in this case like most people here would understand what that phrase means (the defendant pleads guilty to some lesser crime and agrees to some form of punishment and all that has to be approved by some judge in court). In this case the crooked, corrupt, useless State’s Attorney for Crook County Kim Foxx decided to drop all charges (he plead guilty to nothing) and all Juicy had to due was forfeit his measly $10k bond and perform some unspecified community service (which was to show up at Jessie Jackson’s Rainbow/Push headquarters and suggest that people buy the Rainbow/Push gear that was being sold).

This was all done on orders from the Obamas via their minions and lackeys (Tina Tchen in this case). And of course none of this corruption was ever investigated:

The court began with this:

Today we resolve a question about the State’s responsibility to honor the agreements it makes with defendants. Specifically, we address whether a dismissal of a case by nolle prosequi allows the State to bring a second prosecution when the dismissal was entered as part of an agreement with the defendant and the defendant has performed his part of the bargain. We hold that a second prosecution under these circumstances is a due process violation, and we therefore reverse defendant’s conviction.

In other words, he hasn't been exonerated or anything like that. He is being let go on a technicality.

Looks like double jeopardy. He originally had a BS plea agreement by a RAT prosecutor and then a special prosecutor was brought in and he was actually tried for his crimes.

A little OT but I just saw a documentary about Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple. I knew that when they were in SF there were lib pols running interference for their crimes. The name I always saw was Harvey Milk. But there was another pol front and center. Willie Brown.
