There’s a certain allure to the notion that some of the world’s brightest stars burn out at the age of 27. The so-called 27 Club has captivated the public imagination for half a century. Its members include legendary musicians Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. The idea is as seductive as it is tragic: a convergence of talent, fame and untimely death at a singular age.
But is there any truth to this phenomenon, or is it merely a story we tell ourselves and each other about fame and youth?

Flame away.
I never heard of that before.
It’s often said that the satanists running the entertainment industry think it’s a good idea to sacrifice people at the age of 27.
Wow, they sure do say a lot in that article, without really saying anything.
Meanwhile completely ignoring the most prevalent claim—that it’s satanic sacrifice.
Burning out and actually dying are two different things. Who writes this stuff?
I think it’s true in the sense that people in that profession often have dangerous elements to their life and come to an unfortunate end. It doesn’t matter if they were 25, 26, 28, whatever.
I never heard that claim. It’s not like the people who they cite didn’t have known drug abuse issue - Look at that list, they all did.
Although he was well before rock’s 27 club, delta bluesman Robert Johnson fits the pattern.
Willie Nelson didn’t make the list.
The source is a very old, well-known (in some quarters at least) black newspaper, FWIW.
Alan Wilson, vocalist and guitarist for Canned Heat also died at age 27,i think of an overdose.
I agree. That list spans, what, more than 30 years, to come up with those 27-year-olds.
Over another 30+ year period, I bet some other specific age could also comprise a list. Maybe not with two headliners like Hendrix and Joplin, who got the whole “27 club” thing started, but still, another list or lists.
Yes, and Brian Jones.
Any list without Pigpen isn’t worth the paper it’s written on!
On the other hand, some of the rockers from my high school days are still alive: Jagger/Richards, Eric Burdon, Dave Clark, Peter Noone (Herman’s Hermit’s), Mike Love (Beach Boys), among others. Some are still performing.
Also a lot of celebs go crazy in their late 20s. Some say that is when their programming breaks.
Heath Ledger was able to make it to 28 years old before going into the great beyond.
There was a Club 47 where Jim Kweskin used to play, but he’s still alive.
Sociologists trying to sound smart. From The Conversation, so not to be taken seriously anyway.
