Rand Paul Torches Trump’s ‘Terrible’ Plan to Use Military in Mass Deportation Effort: ‘Huge Mistake’

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), a longtime ally of President-elect Donald Trump, came out hard against Trump’s plan to used the military as part of his mass deportation effort on Tuesday night.

“I think what I would do if I were in charge of the immigration situation would be to first to go after those who have committed crimes. You know, the big news right before the election was that there were 15,000 people in our country who have committed murder, there are about 13,000 that have committed sex crimes, violent sex crimes. That’s 28,000 people. Why don’t we start with that 28,000?” began Paul. “I’m not in favor of sending the army in uniforms into our cities to collect people. I think it’s a terrible image. And that’s not what we use our military for, we never have. And it’s actually been illegal for over 100 years to bring the army into our cities. Army and our military are trained to shoot the enemy. They’re not trained to get a warrant to do what they’re doing. The police have a difficult job, but the people removing people from our country need to be a police enforcement domestic agency, not the military. So while I’m all for ‘Remain in Mexico,’ I will not support an emergency to put the army into our cities. I think that’s a huge mistake.”

If Trump wanted to use the military against us citizens, I’d agree with Ron.

The fact that he wants to use the military against illegal invaders from other countries makes it totally called for.

Then round them up yourself Rand. You’re the one who accepted Joe’s fraudulent electors on January 6th. You voted for the illegal invasion.

Again,I'm saying that I don't have a problem with using the military if it's allowed by the Constitution. But your comment can be broken up into two parts:

Actions at the border

Actions once the "invaders" have entered the country.

It seems to me that positioning the military *at* the border to prevent illegal entry could very well be allowed while positioning them anywhere away from the border might not.

When was the last f’n time the U.S. military actually fought a war to defend America on its own soil? Never. If they are not allowed to do this, who the hell is? A bunch of part time reservists? It’s always fighting, bleeding, and dying for some other goddamned country’s borders. The global left has turned mass migration into a lethal weapon aimed at the heart and soul of America. Anyone who quibbles about the means used to eradicate this pernicious threat is an America-hater.

Eisenhower used his border patrol agents, not the military.

300K to 1.3 million depending on who counted and who they counted as some were frequent flyers.

They put them in buses, boats and planes. The boats and planes often took them to the furthest southern Mexican port so they had a long trip to their homes in northern Mexico.

The military was not used.

He doesn't consider it an invasion.

This is similar to Hamas using hospitals for their activity. Just give the "people" opportunity to leave of their own accord and if they don't wish to fall under direct military command.

Hiroshima leaflets (main text) TO THE JAPANESE PEOPLE: America asks that you take immediate heed of what we say on this leaflet. We are in possession of the most destructive explosive ever devised by man. A single one of our newly developed atomic bombs is actually the equivalent in explosive power to what 2000 of our giant B-29s can carry on a single mission. This awful fact is one for you to ponder and we solemnly assure you it is grimly accurate. We have just begun to use this weapon against your homeland. If you still have any doubt, make inquiry as to what happened to Hiroshima when just one atomic bomb fell on that city. Before using this bomb to destroy every resource of the military by which they are prolonging this useless war, we ask that you now petition the Emperor to end the war. Our president has outlined for you the thirteen consequences of an honorable surrender. We urge that you accept these consequences and begin the work of building a new, better and peace-loving Japan. You should take steps now to cease military resistance. Otherwise, we shall resolutely employ this bomb and all our other superior weapons to promptly and forcefully end the war. EVACUATE YOUR CITIES. ATTENTION JAPANESE PEOPLE. EVACUATE YOUR CITIES. Because your military leaders have rejected the thirteen part surrender declaration, two momentous events have occurred in the last few days. The Soviet Union, because of this rejection on the part of the military has notified your Ambassador Sato that it has declared war on your nation. Thus, all powerful countries of the world are now at war with you. Also, because of your leaders’ refusal to accept the surrender declaration that would enable Japan to honorably end this useless war, we have employed our atomic bomb. A single one of our newly developed atomic bombs is actually the equivalent in explosive power to what 2000 of our giant B-29s could have carried on a single mission. Radio Tokyo has told you that with the first use of this weapon of total destruction, Hiroshima was virtually destroyed. Before we use this bomb again and again to destroy every resource of the military by which they are prolonging this useless war, petition the emperor now to end the war. Our president has outlined for you the thirteen consequences of an honorable surrender. We urge that you accept these consequences and begin the work of building a new, better, and peace-loving Japan. Act at once or we shall resolutely employ this bomb and all our other superior weapons to promptly and forcefully end the war. EVACUATE YOUR CITIES.

Rand (Paul) can go to hell on this one. Almost certainly the military was used to help traffick these Illegals into the US, so now it’s time for them to help send them packing.

By the way, I wonder if he (or his dad) said the same thing when the Air Traffick Controllers also broke the law and went on strike? Should we have waited until we were able to train 20,000 new-hires to be controllers (as in months, at least), or use the military to get planes flying again? All because of some twisted libertarian view on government?

I doubt Trump's intentions are at all ordinally different there and I suspect that is where it will end too. I really doubt a guy who makes his living in construction, hotels, and golf courses would ever rid the country of illegals.

So hypothetically in a Red Dawn scenario the military couldn’t set up checkpoints in the interior and look for enemy spies not in military uniform?

Yet, armed foreign narcoterrorists are here taking over apartment buildings, fighting for “turf” and we should leave that to Barney Fife?

The problem is, the ones he’s going to be rounding up and deporting, like the cartels and gangs, and murderers and rapists, NEED that kind of response, simply because then military is trained in warfare and those they are rounding up will not go quietly into the night.

But it's not a military invasion. If it was Mexican...or Canadian...*troops* that would be entirely different.

Then Rand should say growing the Border Patrol to round up illegals using city sweeps is what is needed.

Rand appears to be poorly informed on the subject, so expecting him to say anything intelligent about it is doomed to disappointment.

The military is tasked with defending the country. They’ve failed at it. Who better to task with dealing with the invasion? I usually agree with Rand but he seems to be more concerned with optics than reason in this case. As far as optics go, the usual suspects will be shrieking no matter what we do, so just do the right thing and ignore them.
