A Hawaii woman who has been missing since she failed to board a connecting flight in Los Angeles sent “alarming” text messages before she vanished, her family has said.
The family of Hannah Kobayashi, 30, who has been missing since Friday, Nov. 8, said she felt “scared” in the text messages while staying in L.A. ahead of her scheduled connecting flight to New York City.
"Hannah’s last message to us was alarming — she mentioned feeling scared, and that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity," family member Larie Pidgeon wrote on Facebook on Nov. 14. "She hasn’t been heard from since, and we are gravely concerned for her safety.”

That was my thought too. I read a post not long ago where a young girl traveling alone was approached by a trafficker and nearly taken. This occurred in the airport luggage claim area. He was very insistent, wanting to know her phone number, what hotel she was staying in, etc.
Finally airport security got involved and scared him away. I fear this girl was not as lucky.
Most connecting flights are under 24 hours wait, and rarely go over 48 hours. Never, ever, leave the airport while waiting for a connecting flight. If you don’t have a membership to one of the exclusive airport lounges, bring one of those pool mattress floats and blow it up and sleep on the floor of your gate.
You can txt but not 911
I wouldn’t know and would sleep in the airport.
I believe there are airport workers involved in the sex trafficking trade. They spot unaccompanied pretty women and corral them into an area to kidnap them without anyone else noticing. If several are working together they can bypass surveillance cameras by using locations in the airport in which cameras do not reach. There are a lot of Muslims employed in the airport industry. Just sayin’.
not the the outcome will be much better unfortunately but I think it’s more likely she never left Hawaii and whoever the perp is took her phone and flew somewhere. Will be interesting to look at the cameras (with the family) to see if anyone familiar to them is on there
“So this happened in a secured portion of the airport, past security, where there are cameras? Amazing”
Amazing how people post fake facts without reading the article ...
in this day and age, it’s crazy for a woman to travel alone if it’s possible to go with a partner.
We watch “Cruise Ship Murders” on Freevee sometimes. Single women disappear and/or die.
There are plenty of 5 star hotels next to LAX.
My thoughts also. and cameras every 20 feet as well. There is more to this story. But it is also sad. Prayers for all involved.
CONNECTING FLIGHTS USUALLY DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME BETWEEN TO GET A HOTEL.
THAT is A LONG WAY FROM LAX.
PICO is NOT IMMEDIATELY SURROUNDING AREA
She decided to go sightseeing while waiting for another flight, apparently.
I wonder how she missed her flight in the first place? My first thought was that she might be trying to disappear intentionally, or maybe she met someone online that lured her to LA.
Yeah - it’s fairly safe (but expensive) to stay in El Segundo or Redondo Beach - 5 to 10 minutes away. Also, numerous hotel buses frequent the airport as well. But if you tried to get a less expensive Air BnB, could be a problem
I don't think this was the case with this disappearance, because she was seen in LA. I think it is likely she told someone she met of her plans. I suppose it is possible she just wanted to disappear, but I doubt it.
LAX is a 24/7 airport, so nobody is going to grab an adult at the baggage claim area. I could see it happening by a fake ride sharing driver
LOL. Have you auditioned for the Babylon Bee?
“There are plenty of 5 star hotels next to LAX.”
There are, but what about the time and space in between? Anything could happen. “There’s many a slip between the cup and the lip.”
Los Angeles. New York City.
I’d feel scared too. Out around LAX is not too crazy. In fact some nicer places along the coast. But who knows what they are importing to stay at the airport. Last time I was at SFO they were allowing homeless to camp out in the baggage claim area.
New York, or any other one of those airports, I wouldn’t leave if I was driven in an APC.
Prayers for the poor woman.
This is all supposition, since the groomer was scared off, but the thought was he wasn't working alone. You're right, he wouldn't "grab her" there --- his job is to spot the prey, confirm she's alone and no one is meeting her there. He'll ask where she's from, where's she going, where she's staying.
Then he'll phone his accomplices, who are in a car outside the airport, with her description and any other info he was able to get. They might try to lure her into the car (fake uber, maybe) or follow her to her hotel and make a move there.
