Students for Life: Pro-lifers must keep fighting after election victories

CV NEWS FEED // In the wake of the 2024 election, the president of Students for Life is calling on pro-life advocates to remain engaged, emphasizing that despite recent victories, the movement still faces significant challenges ahead.

In a November 6 letter, Kristan Hawkins celebrated one of the biggest wins for the pro-life movement, which came from Florida. The state’s extreme abortion amendment was defeated, an outcome anticipated to save tens of thousands of lives this year. This victory was hard-won, Hawkins reported, with support from Governor Ron DeSantis and key contributions from pro-life groups.

Other pro-life measures succeeded too, including the defeat of late-term abortion ballot initiatives in South Dakota and Nebraska and pro-life candidates winning critical U.S. Senate seats and state races.

Despite these successes, Hawkins warned of the challenges ahead.

“Abortion extremism lost but, in many places, abortion moderatism won,” she said.

Students for Life is setting its sights on states like Arizona and Missouri, where pro-abortion constitutional amendments passed amid “lies and fear-mongering” by the abortion lobby.

“GOP leadership in those states MUST step up,” Hawkins said, “and we’ve got to get to work changing culture.”

“And don’t worry,” she added, “I have some creative solutions for how we can massively limit the evil of abortion in those states … stay tuned.”

Hawkins also said, “We need to be ready to fight an on-slaught of attacks against the pro-life movement until Inauguration Day.”

She warned that President Biden and the FDA are trying to expand the use of chemical abortion pills “in ways you wouldn’t believe.”

Students for Life is also urging President-elect Trump to reinforce his pro-life commitments, which they believe are essential for the movement’s momentum.

The pro-life organization is specifically calling on Trump to release pro-life advocates imprisoned for praying outside abortion facilities, appoint pro-life leaders to federal positions, and “truly end federal involvement with abortion (since that’s his view) and tell Planned Parenthood to go fund themselves.” Students for Life also requested that he address the environmental impact of chemical abortion pills to protect public health and lives.

“So, we have work to do, Pro-Life Generation,” Hawkins concluded. “But we are ready. We were born for this.”

The problem with approving liberal abortion policy as a “constitutional right” is that it is eventually construed to mean that anyone has to have “access,” meaning the state/taxpayer has to pay for them.

Every... single.... time.

Considering how creative the Biden Administration got with lawfare; I wonder if the Trump Administration could do the same with say the Mann Act?

“....In its original form, the Mann Act of 1910 made it a felony to engage in interstate or foreign commerce transport of “any woman or girl for the purpose of prostitution or debauchery, or for any other immoral purpose”. ....”

It was amended by Congress in 1978 and again in 1986 to limit its application to transport for the purpose of prostitution or other illegal sexual acts.

So all that would be required would be to get a definition of “for any other immoral purposes.” Things such as late term abortion could be pretty easily defined as an immoral purpose. What might be a greater stretch would be to “define” the mutilation of either a pregnant woman or unborn child as an “illegal sexual act.”

That could throw a damper on the transportation of women to “abortion friendly” states.

Enforcement of the Mann Act was one of the main reasons the FBI was stood up. Back then called the Bureau of Investigation (BI) and originally it had no arrest only investigative powers. I think it was the Osage Murders that changed that.
