Trump's New World Order: His 'plans to end Ukraine war with 800-mile buffer zone' and what his victory means for the rest of the world

Donald Trump's dominant victory in this week's US presidential election has left politicians, captains of industry and military chiefs the world over scrambling to calibrate their approaches ahead of his return to office.

-snip-

A recent Wall Street Journal report citing three sources 'close to the president-elect' claimed that Trump's transition office is considering one proposal that would prevent Kyiv from joining NATO for at least 20 years in exchange for lucrative arms deals.

In the meantime, the conflict would be halted by the implementation of a large demilitarised zone (DMZ) that would effectively freeze the fighting in place and force Kyiv to relinquish up to 20% of its territory as part of an '800-mile DMZ'.

But the sources offered no insight into how such a buffer zone between Russia's border and unoccupied Ukraine would be monitored or managed, other than to say it would not be staffed by American peacekeepers.

'We can do training and other support but the barrel of the gun is going to be European... and we are not paying for it,' one source is quoted as saying.

“In the meantime, the conflict would be halted by the implementation of a large demilitarised zone (DMZ) that would effectively freeze the fighting in place and force Kyiv to relinquish up to 20% of its territory as part of an ‘800-mile DMZ’.”

Why? Just tell Putin the price of oil is going to be cut in half as the US ramps up domestic production. That will take billions out of the Russian economy, preventing Russia from continuing with his war. Unless of course he wants the citizens of Russia to starve.

I have a solution, the US out of NATO, and a total divorce from the UN. LET THE YURPEENS worry about themselves.

Of course, I would have taken the same tack for WW 1 and WW 2. There was almost an eternal balance of power in Europe between Germany, France and Britain. WE upset it, and allowed the USSR to come into existence along with Mao, to say nothing of Hitler.

Our country interfered in endless wars, seeking to end them all. We got bankrupted, and spawned different wars.

Plan ramifications:
Just another notch on Putin’s belt - his invasion paid off against the much feared DJT, who tuned out to be a 90lb weakling.

I read somewhere that 8 in 10 Soviet men that were 19 years old in 1941 died fighting Germany.

How many were Russian, and how many were Ukrainian? Both were part of the USSR.

Germans had almost all of Ukraine.

And that’s where most of the Jewish people lived. I’m sure Stalin didn’t mind Hitler taking care of his “Jewish Problem” for him.

I would oppose any American force in the DMZ and so would the Russians.

I oppose even one member of the US military in Ukraine, period. It’s Europe’s problem.

Let the Limeys and the Frogs and the Poles do it.

Hold the Krauts in reserve, in Krautland.

I think it covered the whole USSR, but Ukraine was total invaded by the Nazis, so I am sure it was really impacted hard there.

Key word here is “talking”. Why would we need to re-arm the Ukraine if Putin more or less gets what he wants which is Donbass and Donestk, no NATO membership, no nukes. I’m expecting a re- draw of the map, a formal agreement, and a neutral zone. Putin wants this over as bad as Zelensky does.

Sounds like BS to get more funding before Trump get in to office.

I really hope that Trump can end this conflict, but giving Putin a reward for invading isn’t going to keep him from doing it again.

Trump will eventually implement major trade deals, whereby the Ukrainian rump state would benefit from the vast uranium reserves (and grain crops) in the regions it still controls. In exchange, it would cede the remaining parts of the four regions it's already losing anyway, saving many lives in the process.

If Z doesn't agree, his economy will collapse long before Russia's, and Poroshenko / Klitschko will depose him peacefully.

Only Trump has the stature to help work out a regional deal.

Trump is going to use the previous cease fire agreement from the very start of the conflict that Biden and Boris torpedoed as a template

It was a good deal then and it's an even better deal now.

Zelenskey, Team Biden and NATO are going to be left explaining why they killed going on a million people, destroyed much of the Ukraine and burned down the world economy to do a worse deal than they could have had weeks into the conflict.

Better than even chance Russia withdraws from most or even all of the Ukraine in return for dropping sanctions.

It's going to be tough for the Ukraine economically but Trump is going to have a very good plan for the reconstruction of the Ukraine to the benefit of the Ukrainian people.

I just don’t see how such a zone will work. Who’s gonna contribute peacemaker troops that both sides will accept? In the past, “peacemaker” troops have almost always proven near useless. How can loads of stealthy autonomous drones that don’t need GPS to navigate be prevented from getting in the zone or crossing it? How wide will this zone be? Will it just be an animal preserve? An adequate surveillance network - holy crap. That could take 5 years to build and still have holes in it. (Israel knows something about the difficulties of trying to wall off an area.)

Is Ukraine just supposed to give up the oil and gas reserves that were set to power its future?

If Pooty comes out of this with any perceived gain, what happens with Taiwan? Korea? Philippines / South China Sea? Can Europe stay stable? (I highly doubt it.)

Many, many tough questions to answer...
