MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's comments at a Tuesday fundraiser about the Electoral College shine a light on a longstanding debate: Should the Electoral College stay or should it go?
Walz, according to pool reports, in Sacramento said the system by which the United States chooses its presidents "needs to go" and instead elect presidents by national popular vote. A spokesman later clarified that those comments do not reflect the official position of the Harris-Walz campaign. The Trump campaign condemned the remarks.
But Minnesota did take a step — through a provision in a large elections bill last year — to allocate its electors based on who receives the most votes nationwide, known as the "National Popular Vote Interstate Compact." Walz signed it.
A presidential candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win an election, securing individual states' support to reach that threshold. The 17 states in the compact, as well as Washington D.C., have agreed to allocate their electors to the winner of the national popular vote. But that would only take effect when enough states join it.
Their benchmark is 270 electoral votes. So far the total number of electors apportioned to those states that have joined is 209.
Rep. Mike Freiberg, DFL-Golden Valley, argues the Electoral College is "undemocratic" and the compact would bring presidential elections in line with other elections for state and local offices.
So Trump got... how many EV votes?
Absurd and Dems playing games here with the U.S. Constitution.... but would be amusing to have them called out on this!

Now that President Trump has easily won the popular vote the lefties are going to pretend this issue never happened.
“The issue is never the issue. The revolution is the issue.”
....every single time.
Minnesota: “…Take THAT, Trump!”
Trump: “I certainly will, thank you very much!”
Minnesota: 👀👹🤡😱🤯🤬😵
The idea is stupid, possibly unconstitutional. But at this time it’s not a deal because it would only kick in once enough states to total 270 EVs have ratified it.
It’s a bad idea for many reasons. Would end up with candidates favoring very populous states. Their legislatures will make it super easy to vote. The campaigns would go door to door harvesting ballots. And more than half the country will end up being ignored by Washington. That could be very dangerous.
omg, it’s 17 states?
Had this unconstitutional proposal been used, Trump would have won a total of 520 electoral votes. Harris would have retained only 18: 13 from VA, 4 from NH and the one from Omaha gifted her by the hapless NE GOP.
Likely unconstitutional but would be funny for Republicans to sue to claim these Electors just to do the sweep!
Those are all the states Kamala won - California, New Hampshire, etc etc.
Trump should sue and claim ALL those EVs and make the Dems dismantle their own law. LOL!

Hey Democrats, I have some more unfortunate news for you. Here’s what the electoral map looks like after the 2030 census. Republicans likely pick up TWELVE electoral votes through population growth.

Look at Wiki.
California “enacted” this.
Trump lawyers should go in and sue to claim these states.
Let Dems call out their own laws as unconstitutional -— or give Trump the SWEEP.
Genius.
So, these morons don’t realize their votes won’t matter anymore if they do this? The country would be run by LA and NY.
That is the primary feature of their plan.
They despise flyover country. Which is anything that is not LA or NY.
No, the attempt to get around the EC only takes effect when states representing 270 EVs agree to it. So Trump won’t be getting MN’s Electoral Votes.
But the thing is, that if a situation ever arose where the Republican won the popular vote but the democrat was going to win the Electoral College vote, the dems in one or several states would call emergency session of the legislature to award their states’ EVs to the dem. Do you think they wouldn’t?
The Constitution leaves the awarding of EVs to the state legislatures, so they couldn’t be stopped.
Would that mean, if this was a real thing, that DJT would have gotten ALL of the electoral votes along with winning the popular vote?
Hmmmm . . .
Yes, you are correct as I re-read the Wiki article - a majority of the states have to approve it before it goes into effect.
But be nice if they got the wording law and Trump could sue over it.
Notice how leftists change the game? Popular vote = we win.
End filibuster.
Indict Trump. Destroy his friends and allies.
But when Trump wins... time to ‘reach out across the aisle and govern for all people’?
How do change votes based on something that doesn’t exist?
Yep. In the states that have passed it, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact will be quietly repealed and never spoken of again.
ballot stuffing enablers -
Oh Tim want have you done now ???
You meant those accolades for yourself/Kamala/Haman but your hated enemy will receive them instead...
:)
But be nice if they got the wording law and Trump could sue over it.
WE . . . . . . . are too big to rig.
