Hi Freepers,
My first ever post, so if I have screwed up somewhere in my composition, please bear with me. I need some guidance.
I have been reading my Bible and occasionally have questions that pop into my head, rattle around, then poof, they are gone.
I want to have a voice transcriber on my Iphone that I can speak the question to and have it transcribed as text into a viewable file. The ideal transcriber would allow me to speak the answer many days later to the file, in the same location as the question.
This is not a "Bible" question, as this could be applied to anything.
I see that there are a zillion transcribers on the Apple Store, so I was hoping someone had already been through this, so I would not have to reinvent the wheel.
Thanks, hope this shows to me that the internet is good for something.
From Apple ...
Dictate text on iPhone
With Dictation on iPhone, you can dictate text anywhere you can type it. You can also use typing and Dictation together—the keyboard stays open during Dictation so you can easily switch between voice and touch to enter text.
Dictation requests are processed on your device in many languages—no internet connection is required. When dictating in a search box, dictated text may be sent to the search provider in order to process the search.
Turn on Dictation
Go to Settings > General > Keyboard.
Turn on Enable Dictation. If a prompt appears, tap Enable Dictation.
Or, there’s always Dragon Dictation ...
Easiest way is to send yourself a text. Open Messages, choose to compose, address it too yourself/number, click the microphone and speak. Then send it. Viola!
You may have to scroll your messages to find the initial but they are all in one place.
I hope you realize than anything you say will be transcribed on some host in the cloud. After that you will be on the list to receive visitors from the social credit committee.
Apple voice to text is awful
Southern accent
Forget it
For Android users, Live Transcribe is built in and it works pretty good.
To use Live Transcribe, you:
Open your device’s Settings
Tap Accessibility
Tap Installed Apps
Tap Live Transcribe
Tap Open Live Transcribe
Dragon. But u gotta pay for it.
There’s also an option to place a shortcut on the screen so you only have to go thru those steps one time.
See Apple's iPhone User Guide page Record and transcribe audio in Notes on iPhone Record live audio and see the transcript
(NOTE: I haven't tried this myself -- I'll have to give it a try)
I don't understand. Please enlighten me. Your handle shows you've been online since 2002, and your profile shows regular comments posted by you to threads on this site continually to date.
How is this your "first ever" post?
😂
I don’t use dictation, at all, so I have no idea.
A friend of ours uses Dragon.
Maybe he meant thread posting. 🤷♀️
I totally agree. I rarely use the voice to text feature. It messes up every time. And my Southern accent isn’t that bad!
You are correct. Many comments, but never threw a new post out there
you already have!
Siri is transcribing everything you say only its being archived back at the CIA’s main storage. just sayin’
Thanks, do you have supporting material for that claim?
Not being argumentative, truly want to be in possession of the facts.
There’s a note pad feature you can use with speakwrite. Touch the little microphone. But the thing gets words wrong a lot so you need to check and edit.
“Then send it. Viola!”
Are you sure it’s not “Violin”? 😊
There should be a program on your iPhone already for that. The problem I have using the iPhone dictation is that it makes mistakes and it’s my fault for not double checking before I send something by Text. I am not sure how really did any of these programs are, they have to try and adapt to your speaking style and it just is not perfect at all.
