It's a question that continues to puzzle people 50 years after it happened: why did the TV show Bewitched suddenly and seemingly inexplicably replace the actor who played Darrin in the middle of its run?

Paul Lynde was hilarious on Bewitched.
The end of the line...
Tim Walz’s speech and mannerisms remind me a lot of those of Dick Sargent. Seriously
*And, yes, I am implying what you think I’m implying.
I knew I’d find you here.
Because the pharma people are making too much money on treatment.
I do like my ‘60s sit-coms and game shows. And though I wouldn’t admit it when I was seven, Elizabeth Montgomery was REALLY pretty.
"Abner! Abner!"
"There's a giant Oompa Loompa out there with crazy hair and a garbage truck, here to steal our Democracy!"
"Gladys you ditz, that's just the rightful President of the United States. Stop watching that View crap."

"Bewitched" had to be the most alcoholic sitcom of all time. The mortals were constantly drinking while the witches gave them good reason to.
Marion Lorne, the actress who played Aunt Clara, had an extensive collection of doorknobs and used many of her own as props on the show.
Check out Dallas.
Not new news.
I’m a contrarian too. Thought Coy and Vance were underrated. Caddyshack II was better than the original. Robert the Bruce was better than Braveheart (no one agrees with me but that’s life).
I can’t stand Jar Jar Binks, gotta draw the line there.
The two Darrens didn’t really matter to me, just like the two Maggies on Diffrent Strokes or Shelly Long/Kirstie Alley on Cheers, Cloris Leachman replaced Charlotte Rae on Facts of Life, April temporarily replaced Bonnie on Knight Rider, the list goes on forever......
I had forgotten who Philis was supposed to be. I couldn’t imagine speaking to my Mom that way, or letting my boss do it either. But then, my family was old fashioned in ways of traditional respect.
Sargent was gay and had to play the character differently.
I always thought the show was stupid, no matter which Darin was in it. But I watched to look at Elizabeth Montgomery.
York’s constant back pain made him a pain to watch in the year 3 & 4 episodes...
Should have been replaced in year 3...
IMHO...
The movie you're thinking of is Bell, Book, and Candle which co-starred Jack Lemon. The principles were Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak.
Bell, Book, and Candle is the closer inspiration to Bewitched than I Married A Witch. The former is a present-day courtship movie while the latter is an across-the-centuries revenge rom-com.

I wonder how many people know that a bell, book, and candle are used in the Rite of Excommunication. That’s where the reference comes from.
As a child watching this show daily, I never noticed there were two Darrins.
