I'm a sailor, but these guys are still good with us.

Happy 249th birthday, Marine Corps...
Seems just like yesterday (July 1951) that I arrived at Yemassee in the middle of the night...

Thank You Marine Corps for Your Service !!!
Attended our platoons 50th anniversary at PI a few years back. We were staying in Beaufort and made a side trip up to Yemassee to see the station. There's a memorial plaque at the station commemorating all the young Marine wannabees that arrived at Yemassee on their way to PI. Some of the recruits in our platoon came thru Yemassee, others ... including myself, flew into Charleston, then by bus to PI arriving in the middle of the night as well.
It’s the Corps as I remember it. I hope Marines will always be there for America. In the closing remarks of the tribute, I wish they would have included along with a Marine’s commitment to Nation, family, and fellow Marines, a commitment to the U.S. Constitution. While it’s assumed the two - Nation & Constitution - remain inseperable, it’s not a certainty. As the Nation waxes and wains, a Marine’s supreme allegiance must be to the U.S. Constitution, the guarantor of freedom for all American citizens. It’s the document all Marines swear an oath to uphold. Happy 249th Birthday and Semper fidelis to all.
A submarine sailor gives a snappy salute to the 259th! ;-)
Marines! My favorite branch. Happy Birthday to all the past, present, and future Marines.
Train I arrived on was assembled in DC from all over eastern U.S.
As I remember, there were about 800 on the train...
At 1 A.M., 30 DIs and MPs used Billy-clubs and swagger sticks to get the train emptied in a hurry and the buses loaded...
They informed us, very loudly and profanely, that we were stop-gap cannon fodder...
What year was this?
July 1951
About that time my Senior Drill Instructor graduated Boot Camp. No recruit leave, boarded a train bound for California a boat to ROK. A tanker, one of his final duty stations was TBS.
A good man and better Marine.
