Surprised this song hasn't gone down the liberal cancel culture memory hole, it was a big hit in 1970.
Have fun it's Saturday and flame away.
Don’t come hangin’ ‘round my door
Don’t want to see your face no more
I don’t need your war machines
I don’t need your ghetto scenes
All music was protest in the 60’s. The 70’s were the best.
Burton Cummings was talented. “These Eye’s”-beautiful.
Borderline bubblegum music.
The lyrics are much more pertinent today.
When most likely Kamala’s Secretary of Defense will be Liz Cheney, there’s your “war machine”.
Burton Cummings is a virulent leftist and anti-American. Screw him and you.
So Dick and Liz Cheney are not war mongers?
“virulent leftist and anti-American”
For the record, a lot of musicians are.......feel free to list ‘em all......I’ll get back to you in a few days when your done.
will be? WILL BE???
Bite your tongue bro!
That should also scare a lot of Democrats, do they really want that?
One of my favorites ... Then and now ...
They were protesting a war started by a Democrat.
Of course they’ve indoctrinated generations into believing it was “Nixon’s War”, as if LBJ never existed.
All they know is stop Trump at any and all costs....then deal with the fallout later....and they couldn’t give 2 shits who gets hurt or how bad it damages the country.
A Canadian group with no love for “the lunatic in the basement.” Also really unpleasant listening when in an altered frame of reference.
ChatGPT explains:
Yes, Pat Nixon did request that The Guess Who not perform their hit song "American Woman" at the White House event for her daughter Tricia Nixon. The song's lyrics were perceived as controversial and critical of American foreign policy, which led to the request2. The band complied and did not play the song during the event.
Thank you with a big smile on my face! I used to play that for my now-ex every time she would have one of her hissy fits! ROFL
I hope that she is listening to it NOW! ;-)
It was filthy, called her every misogynistic name in the book.
Really upset my date!
The band's origin is a bit more complicated than that having its roots in a couple of Chad Allen-led bands. One of the single releases of Chad Allen and the Expressions was credited to "Guess Who?" as a publicity stunt. This was pre-Burton Cummings. He joined the band after that and just before Chad Allen left but the name stuck.
Guess Who was very talented. IMO Burton Cummings and Mike Smith of the Dave Clark Five are the two most underrated singers of the pop era.
