Actress Teri Garr has died at age 79, Variety reported on Tuesday.
Garr passed away in Los Angeles after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
The late star was best known for her roles in the films “Young Frankenstein” and “Tootsie,” the latter of which earned her an Oscar nomination.
Garr was born on December 11, 1944 in Lakewood, Ohio. She moved to Los Angeles and then later to New York to pursue acting. She started out as a go-go dancer and made appearances in six Elvis Presley musicals in the 1960s.
Her first on-screen speaking role was in 1968’s “Head,” written and produced by Jack Nicholson.
Some of her other earliest credits included appearances in shows like “Star Trek,” “The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour,” and “The New Dick Van Dyke Show.”
Garr’s big break came with her role as Inga, Frankenstein’s assistant, in Mel Brooks’ 1974 comedy horror “Young Frankenstein.” Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman and Cloris Leachman also starred in the movie.
That same year, Garr starred in Francis Ford Coppola’s thriller “The Conversation.” She followed that up with Steven Spielberg’s 1977 sci-fi film “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”
Come the 1980s, Garr landed a role opposite Dustin Hoffman in the satirical rom-com “Tootsie.” Her performance as Sandy Lester earned Garr her first and only nomination for an Academy Award.

Thanks for the tip. Will have to look it up.
So sad. rest in Peace, Teri. Thank you for everything.
BTW; Did you know that Lisa Garr guest host of Coast to Coast AM is Terr’s niece?
Text to speach seemed like so futuristic back then.
The last models of those ibm ball typewriters had a parallel interface and with a usb-paralell adaptor and rasperry pi 5 you can make one type what you say.
I have not figured out how to make my cat turn into a beautiful woman.
That goes without saying.
I can’t think of a better combination of beauty and comedy chops than Teri.
Was in the military when Young Frankenstein came out, saw it with a cute young thing but all could do fall out of my chair laughing over and over the cute young thing refused to even give me a kiss after, but it was such a great movie with Teri I didn’t care..RIP
I think Y.F. is a guy thing. Like Blazing Saddles
She was also in the “Oh God” movie as John Denver’s wife. That movie is one of my favorites, though the sequels stunk to high heaven.
Actually, I thought Blazing Saddles was just dumb...
28 is far too young. So sorry...
I thought everyone liked Young Frankenstein.
We all remember the lines, too, don’t we?
For example, “Put. The candle. Back.”
That film was comedy gold.
RIP, Teri. Thanks for the laughter...
Was always one of my favorite actresses...
R.I.P. Terri...
