Canadian Defense Strategy and Issues - Procurement Disasters, the Arctic & Alliances

Ever since I did a video on Germany and its procurement and modernisation woes back in 2022, I've felt it would only be fair if some of NATO's other notable performers in that field got some attention.

Today we're going to have a look at Canada's defence strategy, its strategic geography and its long record of procurement and budgetary adventures.

So take a seat, ready yourselves, and let's see if Germany is about to find a worthy challenger. This is meant to be entertainment, try not to cry.

Note that there is at least one audio flub this episode - I refer to the UK Type 26 in passing as being a proven design (meaning from a sales perspective) not from a combat perspective (given they aren't in service yet).

Canada’s strategic defense plan is to sponge off of America’s defense umbrella and to interfere with American domestic politics to keep its sweet scam going.

From the OP-posted text: "...This is meant to be entertainment...."

Looking more closely at the channel, the channel informs of its cited Patreon account:

PerunAU

One can be a Supply Officer ($2.50/mo), Evaluation and Procurement ($5/mo), Research & Development ($11/mo) or Nathan Rooney?

Patreon notes: "a community of 5,384 members," so at the minimum, he brings in quite a nice sum, perhaps about $13K USD every month. Cool, huh?

And then add to that, his YouTube AdSense income, with note of the "contains paid promotion" included:

Perun's estimated YouTube earnings
Same Perun runs an additional gaming channel.
PerunAu gaming
As with so many other content creators through other links he also seems to offer web promotion: "Lighthouse is a Global Influencer Agency managing a select group of inspirational people who share their stories online." Ka-ching! Not to mention click, subscribe, donate and such....

And, as Perun states, "...This is meant to be entertainment...."

Canadians are weak, weak, weak, with a few men among them and a few in their military, it is one reason that some of those few men have a habit of joining the American military, for one thing the Canadian population does not support their military and is against them like the American left is against ours and works to make it weaker and softer and less capable.

As a nation they are anti-military with a budget that should have the other NATO nations aggressively focusing on them to get in line or else.

This was their Special Forces Regiment, below are snippets from different articles.
“the Somalia Inquiry exposed problems in the Canadian Forces. The affair led to the disbanding of Canada’s elite Canadian Airborne Regiment, greatly damaging the morale of the Canadian Forces. It also led to the immediate reduction of Canadian military spending by nearly 25% from the time of the killing to the inquiry.”

“In 1995, after the emergence of the videos, Collenette decided to disband the Airborne Regiment, transferring its three parachute battalions into other regiments.”

“The disbandment of the Airborne Regiment was complemented by a suite of organisational and cultural reforms, recommended by the inquiry, which helped modernise the Canadian military.
“In a way the military still had a mentality that had been shaped in two world wars and Korea, and the Cold War, and we didn’t seem to have adapted to the changing global focus of conflict,” Collenette said.
He said Canada’s approach – disbandment coupled with major organisational reform – has been “very successful”.

“No Canadian government – conservative or liberal – has attempted to re-establish the Airborne in the 25 years since. Instead, in 2006, today’s Canadian Special Operations Regiment was established”

Yup. One learns Canada has an active duty force of about 70 thousand, and a reserve of about 30 thousand.

Well worth reviewing the data: 2024 Canada Military Strength

And with ex-drama teacher Trudeau as commander-in-chief....

Years ago I had the numbers of Texas participation/enlistments in our military versus Canada’s, I should have saved those posts but Texas dwarfs Canada, yet with a smaller population.

While we might from time to time disagree on some things, one thing seems sure to me. Like Europe over these last decades, Canada has also benefited from and still expects to benefit from these United States, in so many ways.

What would the world look like, if each nation responsibly undertook to build and defend itself?

Canada doesn’t have the capability of defending its vast geography and strategic areas that are part of its location, and they are an asset to the United States and we need them protected, but they need to pull their weight and become more martial.

Canada’s best weapon is a phone.

They just rely on the US to help them if there’s a problem.

I thought it was to send a Frenchman out with a white flag as soon as possible to surrender then wait for the Americans to come rescue them all while complaining about how awful they are.

Can Canada actually field and deploy even a single battalion? Their forefathers proved Canadians could fight in both WWI and WWII but there is little evidence their government will ever give them the means. Of course modern Canada looks and feels nothing like the generations that came before.

That active duty number of 70K includes all land sea and air forces in the Canadian military not just the “army”. They don’t have separate services. The ground forces which have no artillery are about 22K most of whom are effectively under UN command as “Peace Keeping” forces. They are not actually organized for combat operation any more. The “navy” is just as pathetic. For a country with a huge coastline they are virtually undefended and more worried about the USA using their Arctic waters than the Russians or Chinese.

Rather like NATO's green / climate change initiatives. Or the Biden-Harris focus on DEI in the US military, something NOT a part of a true military.
