It’s an out-of-the-box undertaking.
Ground has officially been broken in Saudi Arabia for what is expected to be the “world’s largest building.”
The ambitious, $50 billion project — called the Mukaab — in the capital city, Riyadh, is part of a wave of futuristic construction across the Arab nation, the Sun reported.
The skyline-redefining Mukaab will clock in at 1,300 feet high and 1,200 feet wide when completed — giving it enough volume to contain 20 Empire State Buildings, the outlet reported.
Offering fine dining, retail space, offices and restaurants, the massive cube will be its own downtown-in-a-box with 2 million square feet of floor space.
Many will also call the cube home — as it will feature 104,000 residential units and 9,000 hotel rooms.
The builder boasts that the Mukaab will be “human-first” and that green spaces will be accessible within 15 minutes of any location in the cube.
The New Murabba Development Company also boasts that it will use artificial intelligence to create immersive experiences for Mukaab visitors. That includes gigantic screens that will cover the outside of the square — in the style of the Las Vegas Sphere.

The Borg have landed.
It does look Borgian!
The Borg have landed.
Ya , LOL
Looks like a very big empty
Or the Kaaba 🕋 on steroids.
The land of make believe.
It sure does.
Nice target.
It's a cube. "My name is Ozymandias..."
For those days when you find yourself with pocket lint totaling several billions of Riyads, and don’t quite know what to do with it, you can always build another building.
I heard that the women’s closet will have bathrooms with doors. It will truly be a pleasant place to wait while their husbands shop.
And all too obvious of a target at that.
So much for thinking out of the box

...and not one drop of alcohol in the restaurants or allowed in private residences. And if there's anywhere that actually needs booze, it's any predominantly muzzie hellhole.
That city project ("The Line") didn't get far, so my guess is, this tower would take longer than the Burj Khalifa (six years) and would cost more than double. The KSA is very, very cautious with its budget, and balks at large deficits.
Thanks Libloather, interesting!
I bet the sand will still get in ,LOL
How many cheat foreign(caged) workers will they need to build that because the Saudis can build anything
I fill my tank thinking that I do my part for Saudi infrastructure and contributing to the planet’s only trillionare.
This is because Islamic countries are so primitive. Even the few oil-rich exceptions to that are only rich because of a commodity whose value is created by the Western world.
Architectual penis envy - “mine is bigger than yours, nah nah nah”. Or how many different ways can we load humans like ants on an ant farm. Disasters are going to happen, so lets make them bigger.
What are the very biggest cities? Who tends to run them politically? Why? Liberals/Leftists/Progressives, because they are not economically viable without a lot of taxpayer supported subsidies for the lesser well off to be able afford living there given that costs there are higher than other places but the elites there NEED the lower wage workers there to make them livable for THEM.
I lived in the ant farm of NYC for over a dozen years. Never went back there to live.
