Parents accuse Texas elementary school of giving children ‘sleepy stickers’
Parents at a Texas school say a teacher gave their pre-K students sleep aids to make them sleepy. The school district says there is an "active criminal investigation" and they have removed four teachers from the classroom.
“We’re not going to stay quiet,” Lisa Luviano, who says her 5-year-old daughter Layne told her in September that teachers had been putting a “sleepy sticker” on her body.
TODAY.com has not verified the product in question; parent Melissa Gilford, whose 4-year-old daughter Ava said she was also given a sleep-aid sticker at Northgate Crossing Elementary School in Spring, Texas, says it looks exactly like an over-the-counter sleep patch that contains melatonin.
A spokesperson from the Spring Independent School District in Houston emailed TODAY.com statements acknowledging the “deeply troubling” matter and saying the matter is under criminal investigation.

Obviously.
I think it’s more that it makes them - we’re talking preschoolers here - quiet and manageable.
Still wrong, but lots of parents would probably try it on occasion!
I “guess drugging the kids makes them” tolerable.
I suspect the teachers should have just walked out. They’ll be going to places where walking out won’t be possible for considerable amounts of time.
I can imagine the lawsuits, good God, every lawyer in town must be knocking on their door.
Here’s a novel idea. Parent you kids and they will behave. Stop dropping them in front of a tv/computer. We never had an issue with our pack. They were busy being kids all the time and we spent every minute we could with them.
If this were just a creative ruse about the power of the stickers, it’d be inventive, but basically harmless. 40 winks!
Who does this with actual sleep-inducing substances? Were their lessons not worthless enough to make the kiddies nod off?
Perhaps these teachers had ‘high’ ethical standards, and didn’t want to lie.
no kidding.
They should (and hopefully did) research the power of placebos.
There is a nice picture there, hopefully someone will post it.
My fourth grade teacher used to give a scratch and sniff sticker on my paper if I got an F :(
Does not surprise me at all from Houston teachers. From greatschools site, 52% Hispanic and 30% Black with just below the average state performance levels. However, real estate sites and street view show it is a middle to upper middle class area with 2 story brick homes and nice yards.
TX law says pre-k nap time can’t be longer than 3 hours. How long did nap time stretch out to?

Seemed to work.
Even indoctrination of children requires a teacher to work. I suppose it must be hard for a union progressive hack to decide; whether to do the hard work of turning boys into girls, stubborn independent curious trusting children into lazy entitled stupid creatures, or, collecting a seriously good check and pension for no effort at all.
For the good of all freedom loving people let’s hope the kids get the sleepy option.
That is outrageous. Faculty are not supposed to be drugging kids under their care, or even striking them. The teachers who were too lazy to teach and preferred drugged up kiddies should have their teaching license yanked and be jailed. They are lucky they did not try that on any kid I know.
Maybe pre-schoolers belong at home with their parents instead of an early childhood indoctrination camp?
Is Pre-K voluntary in Texas? If so parents need to consider giving it a pass.
Did I miss the part where the children were given a drug because of behavioral problems? Mind you that would not justify what the teachers did.
Best response yet.
To some if your kid won’t lay down and take a nap that is behavioral.
You are much easier to deal with when medicated into compliance.
These teachers need jail time.
