Dozens of Honolulu police officers piled into a recent city council meeting to block a proposed $1.5million payout to the widow of a 'Zulu prince' who was shot dead by a cop.
Lindani Myeni, who was a member of the Zulu tribe and a descendant of Zulu royalty, was fatally shot on April 14, 2021 following a struggle with police officers outside a vacation rental in the city's Nuuanu neighborhood, which he was accused of entering without permission.
The 29-year-old's widow, Lindsay, filed a wrongful death suit in the aftermath, arguing that police failed to identify themselves when they pointed a gun at Lindani and started shooting him that night.
The corporation counsel for the city and county of Honolulu have since reached the pricey settlement with Lindsay.
But prosecutors, police advocates and even the mayor spoke out against approving the settlement at a meeting on October 9, arguing it should instead go to trial, according to the Honolulu Civil Beat.
They were supported by police officers who showed up in droves to the hearing, which Myeni family attorney James Bickerton slammed.
'I've never seen anything like it,' he told Civil Beat.
'It's literally a show of force. It has no place in a democracy. If you want to come down and testify in a civil matter, leave your guns back in the station.'
Those who oppose the settlement claim Myeni became violent as soon as officers arrived on the scene after they received a call claiming he followed a woman into her home, took off his shoes and exhibited 'odd behavior.'
Police Chief Joe Logan testified at the hearing that there were only '15 seconds from the time the officers got there to [when] they were under attack.

I am not scared at the sight of a gun, but I am petrified at the sight of a lawyer named Bickerton. So there’s that.
EC
Could very well be settle and not take a chance a jury would award a bigger payment.
Myeni and wife on wedding day.
A princess just like Disney! Just like.
It would have been nice had the article gone into more detail about the struggle.
But it must have been a doozy. From the article: “One cop was also hospitalized with major facial injuries and concussion…”
If Myeni was advancing faster than the cops could maneuver, this would seem like a good shoot.
As a side note, in the old days every cop carried a hickory wood baton. Most don’t now, for various reasons. I wonder if a baton used as a prod would have been useful here.
Drink it down you Zulu Warrior! 🍺
The hickory shampoo.
It’s a long story, but there’s a giant riot baton that was given to my father leaning against my safe. It’s a very simple piece of hardware.
Sure, in a "democracy" your suppose to just bend over and take it. Just because "THEY" say so.
And the reason they give for being able to rape and rob you is, this is a "democracy".. (spit)

Yep. If I recall correctly, the Rodney King incident put an end to that. The cops were using their batons as clubs and not as prods. That got many folks upset.
Awhile back I was talking to a cop I know about equipment. Why don’t you carry a baton? He (surprisingly) said it’s a financial thing. To carry a baton, a police officer has to go through a couple of days of training, on an annual basis. The township doesn’t want to spend the money.
I don’t know how true that is. But that’s what he said.
Looks like the black Flintstones.
BRING BACK THE BILLY..!
LOL.
“We was kings!”
The sistas ain’t gone like this one bit.
Sounds like a typical Democrat sweetheart lawsuit.
