Get North Korean troops out of Putin’s war now, Seoul warns Moscow

South Korea's foreign ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to Seoul on Monday and urged an "immediate" withdrawal of North Korean soldiers from the war in Ukraine.

"We condemn North Korea's illegal military cooperation, including its dispatch of troops to Russia, in the strongest terms," said South Korea's First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong Kyun in a press release, calling for an "immediate withdrawal" of the troops.

The minister warned the Russian ambassador Georgiy Zinoviev that Seoul will respond by mobilizing "all available means in cooperation with the international community to any acts that threaten the core interests of South Korea."

Zinoviev responded in a Facebook post that the cooperation with North Korea is "not directed against South Korea's security interests" and that "it is in line with international law."

South Korea's spy agency said Friday it believes North Korea has already begun deploying four brigades totaling 12,000 troops, including special forces, to the Kremlin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The country's President Yoon Suk Yeol called the involvement "a grave security threat to the world."

Pyongyang and Moscow have stepped up their military cooperation since North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in June. The agreement commits both countries to provide military assistance to each other if either is attacked.

Either a lot of fake drama from the “Deep State” intelligence folks or just equalizing things.

So many foreign volunteers for Ukraine from the US, Canada and especially the Baltic states and Poland.

Oh well the other side of the war responds with North Korean troops.

I’m not here to be incited to anger through propaganda.

If I was Soth Korea, I’d be thrilled the Norks are disposing of their best men and equipment in Ukraine.

But that’s just me.

This may be unnecessary. If NK troops start defecting in significant numbers, they may be pulled out quickly. Life as a POW in Ukraine may seem more pleasant than going back to NK. Of course, they may have no awareness of what happens to some POWs if they are repatriated to NK. See Operation Keelhaul for more details.

The NORKS are required to assist Russia by treaty. Article 4 of the NORK/Russian defense pact requires it. It’s the same as Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which Ukraine has never been and will never be part of.

Plus, Plus the NORKS continue getting more nuclear arms and delivery system help from Russia.

“According to Article 4 of the treaty that Kim and Putin signed on June 19, North Korea and Russia “shall immediately provide military and other assistance” to the other party if it “falls into a state of war due to armed invasion from an individual or multiple states.” The treaty stipulates that the assistance must be in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, which preserves the right to “individual or collective self-defense” in response to an armed attack against a UN member.

Putin told reporters after the summit that the treaty represents a “breakthrough” in Russia’s relationship with North Korea and a “new level” of strategic partnership between the two countries. Putin last visited North Korea 24 years ago, although he did meet with Kim in September 2023 near Vladivostok. (See ACT, October 2023.)

Kim described the treaty as “a most powerful agreement” that is “peaceful and defensive in nature.” He said it will be a “driving force” toward a “new multipolar world.”

“Either a lot of fake drama from the “Deep State” intelligence folks or just equalizing things.”

Most likely more lies from the Neocons. But looking at it from South Korea’s standpoint, why would they want the Norks to stay in North Korea?

It would make more sense to buy the entire North Korean army first class tickets to Moscow (for deployment in Ukraine), to get them out of the way.

That’s how we know it’s just more lies from the Neocons, looking for ANY WAY POSSIBLE to claim that Russia only beat NATO because of its use of a relative handful of troops from a country less than 1/5th of its population and 1/100th of its GNP. Neocons NEVER admit defeat (and never admit being wrong), even when it’s shoved in their faces.

--- "I'm not here to be incited to anger through propaganda."

A fine stance.

What is interesting about South Korea is that it has a public debt of about 50% of its economy, while it depends on the US to protect that famous DMZ, our US whose public debt is currently about 120%, both data according to the FRED.

What would South Korea pay to defend its own border if Uncle Sam weren't footing the bill, one may wonder?

I think it’s easy to overlook the fact that though the NORKS are going over there perhaps initially as largely cannon fodder, it’s not all that likely they will simply all just be wiped out or defect. The ones that survive will be experienced, battle tested officers and troops, something right now that neither North or South Korea has. You can have the best equipment in the world, but nothing gives you the psychological and practical advantage in ground combat than seasoned troops that have already faced cold steel. I think that may be Little Kim’s line of thinking here.

"We condemn North Korea's illegal military cooperation..."

What is illegal about it? Are all foreigners in The Ukraine there illegally?

I know right? Makes no sense to be upset that your enemy is killing off their own troops.

Yeah, this is a “proxy war” drummed up by the neocons, a war that they thought Russia would win in a few weeks. Enough with the Russian propaganda.

Secondarily, yes. Primarily he wants to keep Russia on his side. Side benefit is that he won't have to feed the troops while they are on a field trip.
