Thomas Hearns - Highlight ReelRelated info from John Hinderaker at Powerline Blog today...
Much has been written about the rate at which black men are lining up behind Trump. Of course, endorsements don’t mean much in general. But it has to be significant that men like Hearns are willing to come out publicly for Trump.Hearns was no pretty boy. He was never, like Muhammad Ali, a darling of the liberal establishment. He was tougher than nails, and he was feared. The Hitman came by his nickname honestly. It is hard to think of anyone in Michigan whose support might better convince black men that it is OK to vote for Trump. And it is also worth noting that no one likely doubts that Trump was indeed a fan, and, as he said, placed bets on Hearns. I doubt that Mitt Romney, for example, could credibly have said the same.
I hadn’t heard anything about Hearns for quite a while, but a quick Google search reveals that he is currently a Reserve Officer with the Detroit Police Department. Despite his fearsome reputation, he probably was a good guy all along.
But if you are interested, you should check out both of Hearns’s battles with Sugar Ray Leonard, an equally great fighter. Trump wasn’t kidding when he said the Hitman had been involved in some of the greatest fights of all time.
As I recall in 1984, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and one other boxer (George Foreman???) endorsed Reagan.
I guess it was Floyd Patterson.
