Very common. It may be better to aim for the pelvic girdle in a knife attack. Break the support struckture and the attacker falls down and cannot walk.
Much harder for them to attack you that way.
Reminds me incident in Newark NJ circa 1975. Copper doing traffic detail at major cross roads when junior citizen decides to hit him in the back with a hatchet. As copper going down, put 6 into the culprit. Result, copper goes to hospital for superficial back wound due to armor he had on. Culprit heads off to coroner. Yup the usual, “why he have to shoot him 6 times”. Answer should have been “because that is all a six shooter has”.

The disabling shot to the pelvis has been discredited. Pistol bullets will not break the bone, just punch a hole. Jeff Cooper taught a better solution. Two to the chest, evaluate, then one in the head if necessary.
