Wild footage shows at least 50 thieves ransacking freight train in Chicago as cops rush to the scene and service is ground to halt

At least 50 thieves descended on a freight train in Chicago's West Side to ransack whatever items they could get their hands on.

The group of wayward opportunists swarmed the Union Pacific train on Friday to steal multiple boxes before officers arrived.

The robbery occurred just before 4pm in the 400 block of North Lamon Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood.

The massive heist forced the train to suspend its operations. In a statement on X.com, Metra said that 'train service is temporarily suspended due to ongoing police activity near Kedzie.'

The statement continued: 'Metra encourages customers to seek alternate transportation at this time.'

Crazy footage taken of the scene revealed the coordinated nature of the robbery.

People can be seen scrambling over the tracks to an open freight container where several men are busy removing boxes.

The men then hand the cargo off to other people who carry them across the tracks to waiting trucks.

I was told that back in the day rail road police used to carry guns and were not afraid to use them.

Let me guess: it’s them again, Yogi.

of the hundreds or thousands of containers on that train, how did they know which one to rob?

I hate to say it, but this reminds me of truck drivers that used to tip the mafia off about their shipment, and then they’d be “robbed.” They would receive a cut.

Someone had to have tipped these people off for them to know the high value of that particular car’s contents. It would be too big of a risk otherwise - you could end up with an empty car.

These fencing operations should be prosecuted under RICO. Coordinated shoplifting, as well.

The article did not say why the train was stopped. Did someone “stall” a car at a crossing?

Trains stop all the time. Usually to allow another train to pass on that line.

It is odd they knew which one to open.

I worked with the BNSF train dispatchers in Ft. Worth (1993 ~ 2013) and the Union Avenue dispatcher never allowed a train to stop in that area. For this very reason.

This obviously took hours but the cops didn’t show up until the end. Should have sent in the army to surround them not letting anyone slip through. Don’t let the wimpy judges reduce charges or reduce sentences. Through the book at them and make sure they stay in prison to the very last minute. Throw in jaywalking for a few more days.

This is why there are shortages and inflation. This is also why insurance is so high. Companies will charge customers for this.

..it’s them again, Yogi.

..50 thieves..

..wayward opportunists..

..in the South Austin neighborhood.

If the nondescript adjectives and neighborhood were unenlightening, then the video of the thieves cleared things up.

The government, the television manufacturers, and the internet service providers don't want to share that every one of those televisions is completely traceable once plugged in.

They can trace the device ID to the specific router in the house and the name and address on whoever is paying the monthly cable/FIOS bill.

What they also don't want to share is that they won't go after a single set - because the television is the device to facilitate consumerism, where the viewers are sold to advertisers, every day, all day. The carriers gave away smaller flat screen televisions for a while when customers signed up for cable or high-speed internet service.

They look like ants carrying off sugar crumbs.

Does anyone know what they’re getting.

Obviously, inside job. The car was unlocked. Trucks and other vehicles stand ready.

wayward opportunists

I see you find those words strange in light of evidence to the contrary.

Strange spelling Yogi. Especially when it is obvious who the real thieves are. Deep roots all the way back to their forefathers in the land of infernal corruption. Someone forgot how to call a spade a spade.

If I owned a railroad, I’d avoid Chicago, or at least refuse to go less than 50 mph through the city.

These thieves won’t stop until there are deadly consequences for their actions.
