Today in 1954, David Lee Roth was born, making him 70. Although David Lee Roth has enjoyed success as a solo artist, he is best known for his work as lead singer for Van Halen. Nicknamed “Diamond Dave,” Roth was a member of Van Halen from 1974 to 1985, in 1996, and from 2006 to 2020, when the band disbanded. The apex of Roth’s time with Van Halen came in 1984, when they released the album 1984 — their most critically praised and commercially successful album — that features such hits as “Jump,” “Panama,” “Hot For Teacher,” and “I’ll Wait.” In 2007, Van Halen were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Also Van Halen kept out of politics, unlike the kissa$$ers of today to the hollywood left.
Have fun, RIP Eddie Van Halen.
Half the fun of Van Halen was listening to them talk about the infighting in the group. Some of it was amusing (listening to Sammy Hagar talk about his tour with Dave). Some was nasty (what Eddie did to Michael Anthony). The music was great throughout.
Agree. An adequate singer but a charismatic frontman.
Roth was good early on when he would actually do his job....later on he got lazy.
Sammy is a better all around person IMO, Roth has always been a proper jerk and I’ll give you a perfect example.
When Eddie Van Halen once finished a stint in rehab for substance abuse Roth sent him a case of liquor......only an asshole would do something like that.
“When Eddie Van Halen once finished a stint in rehab for substance abuse Roth sent him a case of liquor.”
That IS very low grade stuff.
Kudos to recording/sound engineers Don Landee and Peggy "Mac" McCreary, interesting interview here:

I’m trying to care.
Quit the gossip.
He was just testing his will power.
Might as well jump....................
I don’t feel tardy...
I never liked Roth. He always struck me as phony as hell. Watched him on Rogan not too long ago and it completely confirmed my opinion. He is like somebody playing David Lee Roth/Diamond Dave.
To be honest, though, now that I'm grown there are some of their songs that, if I had a choice, I'd rather hear just the music without some of the lyrics (Hot for Teacher, Jamie's Cryin's one night stand, or normalizing theft in Running with the Devil, etc.). Before I became I father I realized that before I started fussing at my kids for what they put into their heads I needed to clean up what goes into my own head.
True story. My wife’s aunt was an alcoholic and they had an intervention for her. Her alcoholic son brought a case of beer to the intervention. You might be a redneck...
It’s a well known fact that Roth was hyper jealous of Eddie’s talent as a world class guitar player.
Roth always wanted all the attention on him.
Valerie Bertinelli has some choice words about thst dude.
“Bertinelli wrote in her memoir that in the early-’80s Eddie claimed to have overheard Roth complaining about the spotlight he was getting.
“That f-—ing little prick, not only is he winning all the guitar awards, he’s also the first to marry a movie star,” Roth purportedly said.”
He was an opener for a concert I went to. Thought to myself who is that old guy acting like david lee roth? Took me a minute to realize that it was him.
I wish I could have seen them back in the day when they were a hot band. Instead, I saw them on there last tour. Earth Wind and Fire opened for them, they were great. Eddie was great, Alex was great and Wolfie was good too. Diamond Dave couldn’t remember the words to songs he has been singing for years. Very disappointed.
He was hot for his teacher.
I think that shoulda been a DOUBLE intervention. 😏
