SoCal Briefly: When Did California Become a Blue State? Prop 187..surge in voter registration for the Democratic Party.

Before California was the solidly Democratic state we know it to be today, the state’s Republican Party was a force to be reckoned with. Prop 187 helped changed all that..Prop 187 was a ballot measure that aimed to prevent undocumented immigrants from having access to public services, such as public schools, healthcare, and more...Prop 187 stoked a major culture war in California....

On November 8, 1994, Prop 187 passed overwhelmingly: 59% to 41%. Governor Pete Wilson was also reelected, signifying an important victory for the Republican Party.

These were short-term victories. Soon after Prop 187’s passage, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order and the bill never went into effect.

The damage, however, was done. In the process, the Republican Party alienated Latino immigrants, a group whose cultural values had traditionally aligned with the right....

Over the next several years, there was a surge in voter registration for the Democratic Party.

Excerpts. The seeming paradox is that, Latinos, at least Protestant and especially Central Americans 10 years ago, overall profess Christian family and moral values far more than those they vote for in the US.

But which support of the Left by most is overall due to choosing gov. aid (including its non-reportable income as well as lax enforcement of income reporting policies) from iniquitous "Egypt," over that of .Christian value.

Which comes at the expense of soul and family. choosing the flesh over the spirit, and which their children increasingly manifest, though without the animosity toward God like the liberal college educated counterparts.

Soon after Prop 187’s passage, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order and the bill never went into effect.

California fell to the pinkos once the citizens understood that their votes were useless.

CA’s huge electoral chunk went to the GOP nominee for Prez in every election from ‘68 to ‘88. And that was that. The cause was a combo of demographic change and increasingly liberal (brainwashed) white population.

As California became more Catholic it moved farther left.

Here is a graphic example, look not at just the presidential vote but at the issues below it.

See post 4, the white Californians didn’t change much, it was the immigration.

You have to remember that while illegals aren’t voters, they are bodies. The democrat plan began as a way to increase democrat House representation. By increasing the number of illegals, those numbers would reflect in the decennial census and additional House members would result. So without citizenship, the humans alone helped to alter the political balance.

California did not become a blue state b/c of Prop 187. It became a blue state b/c a huge influx of illegals moved in, and their children could vote, and they voted overwhelmingly Democrat because virtually all immigrant groups vote Democrat for at least 2 generations (Irish, Italians, Poles, etc.). Mexican-Americans were also overwhelmingly working-class, whereas the Republican Party before Trump was much more white collar.

This is absolute BS and is a major reason I am on FR.

“the Republican Party alienated Latino immigrants, a group whose cultural values had traditionally aligned with the right....”

What “immigrants” could those have been? The illegal aliens who were invading in the early ‘90s? The amnestied illegals and their family reunification relatives who were a tidal wave in the ‘90s due to the ‘86 amnesty?

None of those people have anything in common with the predominantly White, Protestant Republicans who overwhelmingly populated Southern California from 1850 to 1970. They DID have something in common with the Irish and Italian Catholics in Northern California, namely Catholicism. And brown eyes, in the case of the Italians.

But never mind. Prop. 187 passed 60-40 and ONE JUDGE, Mariana Pfaelzer, a Jewish Leftist put on the federal bench by Jimmah Cahtah, took it upon herself to nullify major portions of that proposition. The Republican nominee for Governor in 1998, Dan Lungren, refused to make that an issue because he bought into the “don’t piss off the Mexicans” meme that this idiot article pushes. The Democrat, Gray Davis, said “I am not a judge” and implied he would not try to overturn 187. So he got elected. Lungren’s strategy was an abject failure.

What happened next?

Davis got elected, he reneged, did not appeal Pfaelzer’s idiot ruling to the 9th Circuit and then the SCOTUS as he was supposed to, but instead took it to the 9th Circuit Arbitration service where the other side was MALDEF/LULAC/LaRaza, and the government side was...identical. They all shook hands over the table and dumped 187 in the trash basket.

THAT is what killed California. There was never any chance of some massive defection of Mexicans to the Republicans; they were looking for handouts and they wouldn’t get that from the Episcopalians.

After that the floodgates broke and the Invasion was on, full tilt. Had that not occurred, the entire immivasion would have never happened, and millions would have been impolitely told to go home to the rat hole known as Mexico.

So this is all noise.

PS:

A few years later when this was all obvious to the citizenry, we recalled Davis. Lotta folks right here on FR were instrumental in that. Even printed up thousands of “Dump Davis” bumper stickers that showed up all over California. They said it was about the power blackouts that summer, but it was really about 187.

That was ground zero. When the Bush pubs refused to fight for B1 Bob against a “latina” it sent a clear message that they could cheat their way to a one party state and the repubs would do nothing. And they’ve exported that to other states.

“During the 1920s and 1930s Los Angeles was a bastion of Anglo Protestantism, reflecting the values of Midwestern parishioners who had been carried to the Southland on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Well into the 1970s, Protestant denominational leaders enjoyed comfortable, influential ties with the city’s still-strong “downtown business
establishment,” which itself was largely Protestant.

The Immigration Act of 1965, however, created the condition for a radically different religious future for the City of Angels-a future that would anoint Roman Catholicism as the area’s dominant religious group. Today Roman Catholicism is the single largest faith tradition in Los Angeles County, with 294 parishes and 3,631,368 adherents.
Among Christians, 71% are Catholics. Between 1980 and 1997, Roman Catholicism experienced a 36% growth.”

California GOP should try to register Hispanics.

That is a big trend in Texas — especially south Texas.

Recent legal immigrants resent the new illegal wave most.

I watched the debate on that on C-Span, all Dornan argued was one man , one vote, which had been Democrat rallying cry for years, just like “money in politics” was after that until it went overwhelmingly over to the democrats. The Dems argued identity politics, “voter suppression” that night. I bought the Washington Post next day, my jaw dropped when I looked at the headline, verbatim the Democrat line ( this was close to 30 years ago, before FR I think, though close). At about the same time , an honest Democrat election commissioner in Phladelphia , Margaret Tartaglione, started raising questions about her own party’s registration practices, the press rolled her too.

Exactly right. And this is the real reason why Biden/Harris opened the floodgates letting millions of illegals into the country.

Hispanics in California differ a lot from Hispanics in Texas, they are more political and unpleasant, a regional difference like New York and Texas.

People who know and like Hispanics in Texas would be surprised at the different types they meet in California although they both have their origins from Mexico, Texas Hispanics tend to be more conservative and just normal Texans.

In the 1980s Los Angeles bussed White kids to minority Black neighborhoods and the Whites moved out of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Illegal Hispanic aliens moved into Los Angeles.
We passed Prop 187 to deny illegals government funds.
Judge Mariana Pfaelzer overturned our vote.
