ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Major theme parks Walt Disney World and Universal remained open Tuesday ahead of Hurricane Milton ’s expected hit as a major storm in Florida even as other parts of Orlando’s tourism machine shut down.
Disney said it was operating under normal conditions and planned, for now, only to close its campgrounds and rental cabins in wooded areas.
Both theme parks said they would continue monitoring the weather and adjust accordingly

Daughter and her daughter flew in yesterday for their long planned visit to DisneyWorld and D cruise starting Friday. Park hotel is supposed to be very safe through hurricane so they do have food and water in room. Cruise in question
Or, they are hoping thousands end up stranded in the resort hotels, and will intend to bill them full regular costs for rooms and meals, etc.
Disney needs to check in with DeSantis and make sure he approves of their plans.

Lots of locals heading to hotels today. Thankful they could find openings.
They’ll be closed wednesday and thursday. Clouds on the horizon and approaching Orlando.

Ground has been soaked for weeks. Have to take advantage when I can. Ponds are full. If storm goes north of Anclote River it will back up SW Pasco County drainage.
My aunt moved down to Kissimmee when there was only one paved street in town, in front of the Bramha Hotel. She got bored, and started dealing real estate, north of I-4, mostly swamp, for a variety of companies in Denver, Chicago, New York, LA, San Francisco. She would force her Lincoln up rutted roads to deal with old swamp rats. She became absurdly wealthy doing it. The companies bought over 24,000 acres, cheap. Turns out they were shells for Walt Disney. He didn't want to get hosed like what happened around Disneyland.
The families who ran the county were outraged. They started passing construction ordinances that tripled the price of construction for Disney. One of the most expensive, passed after construction was started, was a requirement that buildings open to the public must be hurricane PROOF, up to 150+ MPH wind loadings. Disney complied.
DisneyWorld and Epcot are the safest place in the state to ride out a hurricane.
Just to be clear, I wasn’t being sarcastic. I’m in south Alabama, about 30 miles from the Gulf. I have a weird compulsion to cut my grass before a hurricane. So does pretty much everyone I know.
