There are more millionaire college athletes than ever before.
Last October, there were just 10 NCAA athletes whose NIL earnings exceeded $1 million, according to On3’s NIL deal tracker. That number grew to 24 during last season’s March Madness basketball tournament, and now sits at 34.
College athletes have been allowed to make money from their names, images and likenesses since 2021, after decades of having to judiciously avoid any form of payment that could compromise their amateur status and NCAA eligibility. Many student-athletes during those years lamented the rules that barred them from seeking any form of financial payment while the games they played in generated millions of dollars — especially in football and basketball.

I wonder if those high dollar NIL recipients will vote for Kamala’s tax hikes on the rich?
F’n shameful.
Get all you can college athletes, get all you can
Is this the Title IX that I keep hearing about that destroyed college sports?
/deep hateful sarcasm...
Well, the money is there. Someone is coming up to the athletes and offering them huge amounts of money. Who wouldn’t take millions if it’s offered? Can’t blame the athletes.
But, I’m about over college football. I’ve watched it for 60 years, it was a good run.
18 years old at least-right? Who’s gonna deny them? F the naysayers.
But as you said, NIL is ruining the game, especially college football.
One of the results is, that it is more evenly distributing the talent across all the teams.
There’s no way Vanderbilt beats Bama under the old way.
I can see the day where a school like Vanderbilt might decide to go “All In” for one season and try to buy a championship.
It looks like that’s precisely what Miami is trying to do.
What’s ridiculous is that now you see quarterbacks playing for 6 years for 3-4 different programs.
Correct. The coaches are getting paid millions of dollars. There's all this money from TV. So it's only fair for college athlete to get paid.
I think you will see College Programs run more like NFL teams, where the coaches are there just for Xs and Os, and the Front Office is there for the recruiting and handling NIL, Portal and other aspects of the program. So coaches won’t matter as much, just as in the NFL. The Front Office is what really matters.
The College players are going to take that cash, just like you would take the cash.
Sander isn’t worth it, but Hunter is.
Colleges should not have 80,000 seat stadiums. They do.
“I agree that college athletes should be getting paid.”
Why? Are they students or professional athletes?
The NIL is unsustainable.
The courts and the NCAA have ruined the future of “ college “ football.

The fans are still going to the games. Abd tv ratings are solid.
