Harris: "The people of Lebanon are facing an increasingly dire humanitarian situation. I am concerned about the security and well-being of civilians suffering in Lebanon and will continue working to help meet the needs of all civilians there.

To that end, the United States will provide nearly $157 million in additional assistance to the people of Lebanon for essential needs such as food, shelter, water, protection, and sanitation to help those who have been displaced by the recent conflict. This additional support brings total U.S. assistance to Lebanon over the last year to over $385 million.

If even 1/4 of U.S. aid to Lebanon gets to those who need it, I'd say we would be lucky.

Pretty much every country outside of the United States is "third world" in this respect. There is a long chain of grifters handling the funds until at the end of the line some poor Lebanese schlub gets a bottle of water and batteries for his flashlight. If he's very very lucky, maybe a granola "energy bar" and a disposable "moist towelette" too.

How much of Asheville is OK? We only see the pictures of the parts that are destroyed. Asheville is a sizable city. It will have places where its left-leaning liberal Democrats will be able to vote. Not so much for the mostly Republican people up in the hills.
