I learned our local public school has 3 teachers who are kept out of the classroom because of disputes with administration or other unknown issue - but they are still being paid.

Fighting now in Congress to send middle-class income and property taxation cap constitutional amendments to the states would add the electors of several deep blue states to Trump’s total and make Congress turn deep red come November.

Federal taxation on personal income shall be capped as follows:
below 20% of the median federal full-time civilian employee compensation amount, 10%,
below 50% of the median federal full-time civilian employee compensation amount, 22%,
below the median federal full-time civilian employee compensation amount, 30%,
below the average federal full-time civilian employee compensation of the 100,000 largest recipients, 35%,
below the average federal full-time civilian employee compensation of the 10,000 largest recipients, 40%.

Note 1: All percentages to include employee FICA and self-employment tax as they are income taxes.
Note 2: This is very close to the combined (1040 + employee FICA&Medicare) personal income tax rates now levied.
Note 3: Anything that the IRS would as of January 1, 2024 legally be able to collect income tax on if provided to any person would be considered compensation.

Levies on any residential property of less than 2799 square feet of finished living space shall be no higher than the 2019 dollar amounts on the property, or for a newer or since resold property no higher than what it would have been levied at for 2019 if it lacked owner specific tax breaks, increased by 3% per calendar year since 2019 and by any percentage increase to its finished living space.

The Fair Housing Act of 1968 has established Congress can regulate housing.

Congress could pass statutory limitations on property taxation.

“If the tax rate could just be voted on every year on Nov. 1.”

Up until the late 1960s I believe voters in New York and Florida voted on the real property school tax rate.

WIKI

The [British council] tax is a mix of a property tax and a personal tax. Generally, where two or more persons reside in a dwelling the full tax is payable. If one person resides in the dwelling then 75% is payable. An empty dwelling attracts only a 50% charge unless the billing authority has made a determination otherwise.

In England, the Council Tax bands are as follows:

Band Value
(relative to 1991 prices) Ratio Ratio as % Average
A Up to £40,000 6/9 67% £1,114
B £40,001 to £52,000 7/9 78% £1,300
C £52,001 to £68,000 8/9 89% £1,486
D £68,001 to £88,000 9/9 100% £1,671
E £88,001 to £120,000 11/9 122% £2,043
F £120,001 to £160,000 13/9 144% £2,414
G £160,001 to £320,000 15/9 167% £2,786
H £320,001 and above 18/9 200% £3,343

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_Tax

Council Tax bands for London Borough of Enfield

Council Tax band Council Tax 2023-24 Council Tax 2024-25
A £1,301.63 £1,376.99
B £1,518.56 £1,606.48
C £1,735.50 £1,835.98
D £1,952.44 £2,065.48
E £2,386.32 £2,524.48
F £2,820.19 £2,983.47
G £3,254.07 £3,442.47
H £3,904.88 £4,130.96

Your Council Tax bill will say which band your home is in. These costs assume two adults living in a property.

If you are entitled to Council Tax support, your bill will be reduced by a discount as shown on your bill.

George Gammon had a guest on recently who has all the evidence and is suing because school districts in Texas go to the county assessor and say “here’s what we need for next year’s budget - raise property taxes however you have to to get it.” The assessor then targets conservative neighborhoods and political enemies with big reassessments to fund the school districts’ wish lists - and their increased Democrat contributions.

The property tax scam is complex and benefits many entrenched players, so it is going to be extraordinarily difficult to correct.

It is one of the things kalif has done pretty much right.

One of the things Texas gets wrong but states must have some revenue. Texas allows a 30% increase per year to the assessed value. Live in Texas to work but go somewhere else with lower property and income tax rates to retire.

We are limited to 3% per year increases to the assessed value on the homestead and 5% on not. The 5% is a little hard to swallow in retirement, the 3% is manageable but should be capped when you turn 65 like in Texas.

No matter what they are taxes are too much. People habitually piss away other people's money.

PRIVATE SCHOOL TUITION FUNDING by SCHOOL PROPERTY TAX REBATE

To assist parents in paying tuition and to be fair to the parents, the amount of school taxes they (and perhaps the parents’ parents) pay on their residence(s) might be rebated.

Note that the property tax amount is generally less than a voucher would be.

Building up the private sector school system using market force will produce a better and cheaper school system than vouchers could.

Imagine taxing residential property primarily based on the square root of its enclosed space in square feet.

A 700 square foot apartment would be assessed at 26.45 tax units, a 1,400 square foot split-level house at 37.42 tax units and a 3,500 square foot mansion at 59.16 tax units.

The square footage would be measured based on the ground level foundation/slab perimeter of the structure for ease of tax assessor access and calculation.

A 4,000 square foot Capitol Hill townhouse having a 1,000 square foot basement apartment and 3,000 square foot owners’ space would be taxed based on each housing unit, 31.62 tax units and 54.77 tax units, respectively.

A 12,000 square foot apartment building with 12 apartments of various sizes would be taxed on its average unit size, i.e. at 12x31.62 tax units.

Balconies and partially enclosed areas such as carports might be taxed based on one-fourth of their square footage and other unheated/unfinished enclosed areas such as garages and cellars based on one-half their square footage, which may be calculated from building plans.

I don’t know about that, democrats also own homes.

Prop 13 is still popular or they would find a way to ditch it in a second.

Not a popular suggestion here but an income tax is better than a property tax.

I can understand the arguments for that. I would prefer a sales tax, with exemptions for groceries & medical supplies. But the great Walter Williams made the point that, once people are arguing about the form of taxation it is only because the amount of taxation has become unreasonable. Most people don't gripe too much when taxes are reasonable.

Quality of public service provision is important too.

value(quality of public service provision, scope of public service provision, amount of taxation)

I think a combination of the two would work well.

I’d use Hong Kong as my model for the income tax. The tax form is LITERALLY 1/2 a page long. We paid more in taxes there but minded it less because the tax was understandable, and fair.

The only issue is getting income tax to cover the cash economy. I don’t like the idea of abolishing cash for tax reasons.

States got boku cash during covid from the feds.

When the music stop, they next adjusted their budget for the fact that covid was no longer a problem.

The higher spend rate became the new baseline.

49 other states could bring up their own legislation.

They have certainly had enough time. 47 years.
