And we just lost Kris Kristofferson this past Saturday.
RIP.
Gordon Lightfoot’s version is better.
"And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad
So I had one more for dessert
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt...
Legend has it that Kristofferson wanted Johnny Cash to record it so badly that he stole a military helicopter and landed it in Johnny's front yard to personally hand the song over to him. Likely the story is apocryphal but evidently some truth to it.
I mean if he had actually stolen a military helicopter (and he did know how to fly them), he'd have gone to the brig, or something.
Scott Joplin. What do I win?
Kristofferson did not know she had recorded it until after her death. The first time he heard her recording of it was the day after she died. Kris met Joplin and they became friendly. In fact, they became VERY friendly if you catch my drift.
My husband just told me that Kris and his wife had 8 Children!!!
KRIS KRISTOFFERSON
Janis poured every fiber of her body and soul into her songs, i’m not sure,..was it a quart of Jack Daniels, heroin or a combo? Lot’s of early deaths in those 60’s rockers....long before fentanyl,
I was impressed I knew this, until I saw FR keyword everybodyknowsthis.
Joplin got her start in Austin singing the clubs. Threadgills is where it all started. She was an incredible talent and sad ending along with Jim Morrison and Jim Hendrix all I think is about a year or two. So much talent wasted, it was.
She was a sweetheart - met her at the Monterey Pop Festival.
She wrote it about her lost on again off again love.
See her Love, Janis (Letters to Mom) album - in May 1968 she was dating a guy named George with whom she “spend a couple of days at the beach”.
In Jan 1970, she was dating a kid named Walter (the waiter).
In Sept 22, 1970 (her last letter), she met a really nice man (Rocko?) who wanted to marry her.
Another candidate for “Bobby” is Paul Rothchild, producer for the Doors and others.
