True. Maybe it’s a teaser to test the public response. There was talk of a “reboot” with a female lead. But Depp did show up at Disneyland about a year ago in full costume and character and greeted visitors etc for several hours. At the end of the day it’s a billion dollar franchise and he’s worth many tens of millions in that role. Its business. It’s time Disney gets the plot - people want to be entertained. Any “messaging” should be subtext not overt in your face.
