Met cop telling Nigerian women 'do not call police on your husbands' probed by force 6 years later

A video showing a Metropolitan Police officer allegedly telling a group of Nigerian women not to call police on their husbands but to “manage it", is now being investigated after resurfacing six years later on social media.

The clip filmed inside Divine Restoration International Church in Camberwell in 2018 shows a police staff member addressing a group of mainly women as three officers stand beside, sparking outrage from abuse charities.

In the video, which the Mirror has seen, the officer can be heard speaking in Yoruba - a Nigerian language, as well as English, while he stands at a pulpit talking about knife crime and how sons ‘may not want to listen to their mothers” and instead prefer their fathers.

The footage goes on to show the officer allegedly saying that once Nigerian women arrive in the UK they start behaving “rudely” towards their husbands, adding that they should not call police on their husbands “but manage it.”

Police confirmed to the Mirror that the footage has been referred to the Met's standards unit.

The children’s safeguarding group Afruca, have expressed anger at the remarks in a letter of complaint to the Met detailing how the officer's advice was “telling victims to stay in abusive relationships and not to seek police protection.”

Speaking to the Mirror, Chief Executive of Afruca, Debbie Ariyo who saw the video said: “[The officer said], ‘do not call the police on your husband, but manage it.'

Tommy Sotomayor was talking about this.

I’m going to let you all decide what is right or wrong about it.

Or police could have gone to these Nigerian black men, confronted them, placed them under arrest, and risked escalation.

Which woke faction would be upset then?

I haven’t checked in on Tommy recently.

Since he went to an unedited podcast format, I found him less watchable.

The cop in the story appears to be Nigerian himself.

“Don’t take advantage of a country where you have rights”. We went through this with Immigrants from SE Asia. The Lutherans that brought them in weren’t comfortable telling the men they couldn’t beat their wives. It was pretty unsettling because people(liberals) didn’t know what side to be on.

I’m not British nor Nigerian, therefore I will not make a judgement and urge others to do the same.

I’m not British or Nigerian either. but as a fellow human being who believes in treating others as I wish to be treated. I say that cop was dead wrong to tell those women they have no personal rights, and must quietly absorb being smacked around by the men in their lives. It shouldn’t have taken 6 years for this to get attention. I wouldn’t want my 2 still living sisters to be treated that way, and told there is no way out for them.

Don’t use the municipal constabulary like a toy to abuse your husbands.

I say that cop was dead wrong to tell those women they have no personal rights...

What rights do subjects of the King have in the UK?

I suppose you might be able to educate me on that but from what I have learned over the past decades, they have no rights under their government, or slim to none.
