Mike Pence quietly lays the groundwork for a post-Trump future

Mike Pence stuck his head up this week to take a whack at Trumpism, urging Republicans to reject “protectionist tariffs” and “isolationism” while “unashamedly” recommitting to anti-abortion positions.

It’s a sign of what he’s up to behind the scenes as well.

(snip)

The former vice president’s Wall Street Journal op-ed taking veiled shots at Trump’s policy priorities is just a hint of what Pence is thinking as he waits for the 2024 election to play out. But the big question for Pence is: Is there still a place for him in today’s GOP?

The answer isn’t even clear to his fans: Pence doesn’t fit into “the Republican party of today,” said Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney. “The Republican Party of tomorrow may be a different matter.”

You’re right, the appeasement side of the Republican Party will attempt a comeback, it’s critical for them to be beaten back into the oblivion once again, they will never permanently go away.

Mike is waiting in the wings, hoping “popular demand” will come calling for him to step forward. and lead from behind.
Maybe Mike should have lunch with Liz Cheney. Today’s lunch special: a big bowl of Sour Grapes with a side dish of Crow.

In the notional post-Trump future, Republican politicians exist to be the official losers but they get to keep their dividends.

pence was a nobody before Trump temporarily lifted him from obscurity, and Pence is rapidly headed back to his permanent natural state of being a nobody ... sure, he might get a short gig attacking Trump on some MSNBC or CNN panel or other
like all bitter, loser RINOS do, but after that quickly ends, then nada ...

The GOP is delusional. They actually believe Trump is just a new shiny Christmas toy that we will be bored with by January and will tossed in the closet.

I am not a huge MAGA guy in the political sense. What I am is a fiscal and social conservative with a slight libertarian tilt. I have no place in the GOP and refuse to return to the RINO run plantation. I am not an isolationist but some retraction of our international obligations with a focus on the needs of our citizens first is necessary. I am against protracted military involvement in places that don’t want our help. I would like to see a treaty with Iran. It is not always black and white. Not everyone we have an arrangement with is a friend, like Saudi.

If Trump wins and Vance is a strong VP, MAGA will continue to coalesce behind him. If Trump loses, some MAGA people will return to the GOP, like some RATS they cannot help themselves. The conservatives that take up Trump’s mantle would be wise to see what Trump has done in unifying so many people under MAGA. The more I hear of RFK Jr the more I like although only about 50% of what he says I agree with. I like the call for a Unity party. Trump recently met with a Muslim Mayor and won his endorsement. This is the future not the Country Club GOP.

Pence cannot rehabilitate himself, he was Ryan’s Trojan Horse. They tried to force Trump out so Pence would be President. In hindsight I think they hoped Trump would resign. Pence was not a traitor on J6, but he is a backstabbing SOB.

“If there is any post Trump future it will likely be with Vance not Pence. Vance will have to prove himself loyal and with the cause of MAGA in the four year term of President Trump but that is hopefully where the future lies.”

Missing 30 Pence, the modern day American Judas? Your hopes for that creep reveals you to be just another Bush Crime Family crypto leftist.

Behold the core reality of why Populism is ascendant.

The GOPe cannot bring itself to realize no one cares about their policies. Swamp is policy unto itself.

Nobody cares what that backstabbing traitor thinks.

He is done. He will be a footnote in history, and if remembered at all, will be remembered for being a backstabbing coward who had a chance to do something significant, but sided with evil instead.

In 2028 I think the country will be ready to move on from all of this. Either we will be seeing a hand off of the MAGA mantle, or we will scrap it all for the next generation.

Either way, Mike Pence will be irrelevant.

Honestly, I think we will see the splintering of the Republican Party into the MAGA group and the “OG” Republicans.

Is there still a place for him in today’s GOP?

Of course there is a place. He can vote for Trump against Harris, just like me. He can vote for every Republican against every Democrat, just like me.
