Cats disappear on a regular basis (and come home whenever the hell they feel like it). The headline is meaningless unless we also are told how many cats typically will disappear in the same time period.
Cat owners can easily talk to other cat owners in the neighborhood “Oh, your cat is gone, too?” and rather quickly come to the determination that catnappers may be at work.
And they may be correct.
