Trump unveils $100 coins with his face on them after selling Bibles, sneakers

Former President Trump on Saturday revealed that he is selling $100 “Trump Coins” with his face on them, calling the items a “true symbol of American greatness.”

The coins are now the latest product to be sold by Trump as he seeks a second term in the White House, following the launch of Trump Sneakers and “God Bless the USA” Bibles earlier this year.

“Trump Coins are designed by me and minted right here in the U.S.A. This beautiful, limited-edition coin commemorates our movement, our fight for freedom, prosperity and putting America first, we always put America first,” Trump said in a video message posted to Truth Social.

“It’s more than just a collector’s item, it’s a testament to the resilience and strength of the American people, our American patriots that we love so much,” he added.

The 1.6-inch coins are a “1oz .999% silver medallion” and are “struck with a proof finish featuring our 45th President’s profile on the obverse and the White House on the reverse,” according to a description on the Trump Coins website

*** In March, Trump announced he was partnering with country musician Lee Greenwood to sell “God Bless the USA” Bibles ahead of Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

“Happy Holy Week! Let’s Make America Pray Again. As we lead into Good Friday and Easter, I encourage you to get a copy of the God Bless The USA Bible,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social at the time.

The coins do not have a face value. How much are they supposed to be worth? If someone tries to purchase goods with these, what value should the merchant assign?

I never heard of such a thing, so I looked it up. By golly, Openurmind is on to something. But evidently some of those states only recognize silver and gold coins minted by the US government.

I try to tell the wife that this is an investment, not an extravagant purchase, just like the gold bars I buy from Costco.

The coins do not have a face value.

That's because they are not coins. They're "rounds". Coins are struck and issued under the authority of a government mint. As such, they can be assigned a currency value by said government. Rounds (or bars, or whatever) are struck and sold by private mints, and cannot be assigned a currency value, because the private mint has no authority to do so.

It’s actually not part of the campaign, but a strictly for-profit endeavor.

And you know what? I’m fine with that. Frankly, the more big government crapola I hear about capping interest rates and interfering with free trade? The more stuff like this gets put up for sale, the more comfort it gives me that the braying bernie bs is just for electoral show.

Now... if you think it’s an “investment”? I should introduce to my wife’s brother who is just *waiting* for his investment in Billy Beer to pay off.

The fluctuating value of these coins isn’t going to appeal to merchants. I doubt that many will accept these as payments for purchases

I was always under the impression that to get your face on legal tender U.S. currency, it had to be done posthumously.
