In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - a maritime historian at Campbell University (@campbelledu) and former merchant mariner - discusses the departure of MV Dali from the US, the latest findings from the NTSB, the US Department of Justice lawsuit against the owners of Dali, and the Dali's voyage and repairs in China
Those bass turds on that ship need to pay to have the FRANCIS SCOTT KEY BRIDGE rebuilt.
I don’t understand why we would let it go until payment for damages was made. We could melt it down and use the steel for the new bridge.
This will take the marine insurance adjuster years to resolve all of the claims. Every cargo owner that had containers aboard the ship is also exposed to potential liability by way of the law of general average. Negligence on the part of the ship owners may mitigate that liability, but it will take many years and many marine law attorneys to make that determination.
One could also surmise that if they did not have to switch fuels in the US then this would not have happened even given the other failures.
Sal did a video talking about maritime insurance.
MV Dali and the Francis Scott Key Bridge | March 31 Update & Who Pays for the Salvage?
Starting at 10:16 he starts to talk about marine insurance . They have insurance โclubsโ that spread the cost amongst their group, there are 3 layers, which is insurance on their insurance . It may take awhile and some court wrangling plus, maritime law is a strange animal from the sounds of it.
“...it will take many years and many marine law attorneys to make that determination...”
Ain’t The Law just grand?
Why knot have AI Law just streamline the nautical process?
