A Kentucky sheriff has been arrested after fatally shooting a judge in his chambers, police say. District Judge Kevin Mullins died at the scene after being shot multiple times in the Letcher County Courthouse, Kentucky State Police said. Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Stines, 43, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder. The shooting happened on Thursday after an argument inside the court, police said, but they have not yet revealed a motive. Officials said Mullins, 54, was shot multiple times at around 14:00 local time on Thursday at the court in Whitesburg, Kentucky, a small rural town about 150 miles (240km) south-east of Lexington. Sheriff Stines was arrested at the scene without incident, Kentucky State Police said. They did not reveal the nature of the argument before the shooting. According to local newspaper the Mountain Eagle, Sheriff Stines walked into the judge's outer office and told court employees that he needed to speak alone with Mullins. The two entered the judge's chambers, closing the door behind them. Those outside heard gun shots, the newspaper reported. Sheriff Stines reportedly walked out with his hands up and surrendered to police. He was handcuffed in the courthouse foyer.

“Sheriff Stines reportedly walked out with his hands up and surrendered to police”

Yep, he went there for one reason.....if that’s not premeditated I don’t know what is.

Just because it’s premeditated doesn’t mean it isn’t justified.

Or, “I went in for a peaceful talk, and that darn gun just leaped out of its holster and fired before I could stop it.”

The infamous Horst Wessel, who became a Nazi martyr and got a song, turned out to be just another dude diddling another guy’s girlfriend.

The cool callous way this was done shows someone needed killing. The guy shot the judge and just surrendered. He did what he thought he had to do and then quit. 🤔🤯🧐

I think the quitting part was unnecessary :)

I’m sure the judge was destroying the sheriff’s life. So the sheriff ended the judges life first!

I live in eastern KY and keep hearing the judge was raping the sheriff’s underage daughter and having an affair with the sheriffs wife at the same time. This line keeps popping up time and again.

If true the sheriff isn’t even getting indicted if I am on the grand jury. Little Andy Brashear will move the trial to Lexington or Louisville to get a guilty verdict.

I’ve seen those claims, and they sound plausible. They certainly would explain why the Sheriff would have done such a thing.

I remember decades ago in E. KY two politicos had it out for each other and one of them shot the other dead. The shooter got life in a KY prison.
