A Kentucky sheriff has been arrested after fatally shooting a judge in his chambers, police say. District Judge Kevin Mullins died at the scene after being shot multiple times in the Letcher County Courthouse, Kentucky State Police said. Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Stines, 43, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder. The shooting happened on Thursday after an argument inside the court, police said, but they have not yet revealed a motive. Officials said Mullins, 54, was shot multiple times at around 14:00 local time on Thursday at the court in Whitesburg, Kentucky, a small rural town about 150 miles (240km) south-east of Lexington. Sheriff Stines was arrested at the scene without incident, Kentucky State Police said. They did not reveal the nature of the argument before the shooting. According to local newspaper the Mountain Eagle, Sheriff Stines walked into the judge's outer office and told court employees that he needed to speak alone with Mullins. The two entered the judge's chambers, closing the door behind them. Those outside heard gun shots, the newspaper reported. Sheriff Stines reportedly walked out with his hands up and surrendered to police. He was handcuffed in the courthouse foyer.

Don't you just hate that..! :(
Need a lot more Info but.... the judge was unarmed. Self defense doesn’t work in this.. maybe a rotten judge or a rotten sheriff?
I heard it was about the judge handling the sheriff’s divorce, which the sheriff came out on the short end of......well, that’ll do it. š
Maybe they’re both rotten, and the judge would never face justice without this act.
Don't have any idea if it's true.
Probably shoulda used a source with more info, I was just trying to avoid the American liberal media if possible.
A bit mor here...
I would lean towards the judge tapping the sheriff’s wife ex-wife.
That.
Was the sheriff on the FBIs “radar?”
A father here was NOT indicted by a grand jury over something almost identical involving his daughter, but that perp - who is room temp btw - was sewage by status in comparison.
It will be interesting to find out the details as this story evolves from mere rumor...
Geez, sounds like a real soap opera....small town where everybody probably knows everybody elses business. SMH
Iām sure heās lawyered up. It may be awhile before we hear any details about a motive.
My initial impression is that the Judge probably deserved it.
A sheriff does not normally shoot a judge without a good reason.
WELL, it is LETCHER county.
I had read elsewhere that a deputy had been having sex in the Judge's chamber multiple times over the last year. I have also read that the Judge may have molested the sheriff's underaged daughter.
Dunno, but till I get more information, I'm going to assume the judge needed shooting. In my opinion, a lot of them do. They are arrogant and refuse to do their jobs and apply the law as it was intended.

My friend, may I respectfully suggest that if you are ever selected for jury duty, do your best to get out of it. Lol!
Multiple rounds in a face to face meeting sounds like a “crime of passion”. A simple assassination would likely be a single shot to the head. Something really pissed off the sheriff.
