Father-Son Duo Build Hundreds of Pyramids on a Santa Cruz Beach

Hundreds of sand pyramids are being constructed on Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz as part of an art exhibit by Jim Denevan, his son, Brighton and dozens of volunteers.

"It's a reference to the most well-known pyramid in Egypt, just in the sense it has the same angle, same four sides, same steepness, basically," Jim Denevan said. "And so in use, in a sense, when you walk through, you can reference maybe Egypt. But yes, it's a pyramid."

"It's creating beauty from nature. And nature's already beautiful, but somebody is making it more beautiful," Cindy Martino added. "They're creating art and it's temporary. It's not going to be here. It's going to go back to nature. So no waste."

The project, simply called "Pyramids," involves the creation of 380 sand pyramids of various sizes, some reaching over six feet tall. The exhibit is a collaborative effort with dozens of volunteers assisting in the construction.

The Santa Cruz Museum of Art commissioned the project with the Common Ground Art Festival, which runs through next weekend.

The best time to view the sand pyramids is in the late afternoon when the structures cast long shadows, enhancing their visual impact.

The project is expected to be completed by Tuesday evening.

I’ll bet they broke some California Sea Turtle or Seal law if they didn’t get a permit to do this.

Cydonia!!!

For anyone who is unfamiliar with Cydonia, just research Cydonia, pyramids, and The Face On Mars.

Back in the day, it was AMAZING to listen to the “experts” on Art Bell. These “experts” believed so much shhhhtuff. Some of them even wrote books full of shhhhtuff.

Because the Swiss are a don’t trust your neighbors to respect your borders kind of people, and the oldest republic. We should look at their policies , like good fences make good neighbors.

Climate change induced Vulcanism precursors to eruptions, earthquakes, and the next mass extinction event. Or a bunch of 8 year old kids having fun.

INDEED we should!!!

You'd probably like Swiss Movement a short story by Marcia Martin and Eric Vinicoff in Analog June 1975

I spent a week in a obscure wafer fab in an out of the way valley. They had a fully stocked fallout shelter in the basement. Did I mention it was also a blast shelter? It was rated to survive a Hiroshima sized bomb a quarter mile away!

Loved the place, but I assume it's different somehow.

Speaking of global disasters and pyramids this is a 5,000 year project

Don't let the drawings mislead you, the individual pyramids are only as tall as a man, but there will be hundreds scattered across the country.

I remember all the new age pyramid power books from the 70’s.
people even had pyramid tents in their homes to focus the cosmic energy during meditation. Now if we could just teach civilization, peace, good vs evil, harmony, and respect in our society, we’d be a more advanced society. Instead political feudalism seems to be the new norm.

Yeah, pyramid razor sharpeners. People who shelled out $50 for one swore by them...

...It was either that or admit they were suckered!

The guy Deneven in the article is an old hipster stoner. I’d suggest a 70 year old kid having done too much psychedelics.

Thanks Nully for that link, very interesting patent. Kind of reminds me of the similar aim of the Asimov Foundation Encyclopedia project, but of course very different in implementation and location.
