It was named for a fictional alcoholic drink in the Lil Abner comic strip by Al Capp, who licensed the name to the beverage maker.

It was similar to Mountain Dew which was a competitor.

It was sold mainly in The Southeast US, but now is only available in Asia.............

Of course, Lil Abner. I loved reading that comic strip as a kid. I think I actually had a crush on Daisy Mae.

Al Capp, the cartoonist, described the beverage as “a liquor of such stupefying potency that the hardiest citizens of Dogpatch, after the first burning sip, rose into the air, stiff as frozen codfish”.[3][4][9] It was said to be an elixir of such power that the fumes alone have been known to melt the rivets off battleships.
Sounds kind of like the high potency reefer our “trustworthy” scientists are making. I would prefer they make my tomato plants triple the yield.
