A firefighter friend said that survival rates are pretty poor. They would arrive to a victim and sometimes they would take over CPR, or often the person was just holding the phone waiting for them to come. They would start or continue the CPR knowing that it would be of no help, but it was protocol until a medic arrived to take over. This was in the day before defibrillators.
Thank you for the kind words. Looking back I know the ER nurses knew he was gone based on how they looked at me in there. Yes. It was the worst day of my life having to be there alone and deal with that. I’d never been trained for CPR but did my best.
