You shouldn’t feel like you did anything wrong or insufficient. Survival statistics for people who go into cardiac arrest and have to be resuscitated are very poor. Chest compressions do help some people survive, but overall it’s not often.

Condolences on the loss of your husband.

Condolences on the loss of your husband. I can't imagine having to do that on a loved one - much less having it not to have helped.

A firefighter friend said that survival rates are pretty poor. They would arrive to a victim and sometimes they would take over CPR, or often the person was just holding the phone waiting for them to come. They would start or continue the CPR knowing that it would be of no help, but it was protocol until a medic arrived to take over. This was in the day before defibrillators.

Thanks. I’m hearing that from others. Most of these victims don’t survive.
