Turkiye has not recognized the annexation of Crimea, deeming its expulsion illegal under international law.

Turkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated his country's unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while asserting his continuous support for Crimean Tatar rights.

"Our support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence is unwavering. The return of Crimea to Ukraine is a requirement of international law," Erdogan said in a video message screened at the Fourth Crimea Platform Leaders Summit.

Erdogan stressed that the territory's return to Kiev aligns with international law.

The Turkish leader expressed gratitude to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Crimean Tatar leader Mustafa Abdulcemil Kirimoglu for their efforts in organizing the summit, marking the 80th anniversary of the Crimean Tatars' expulsion.

Erdogan stressed that his nation has never recognized the annexation of Crimea, adding that Crimean Turks should have the right to live "freely, securely, and peacefully in their own homeland."

Turkey doesn’t have much room to talk.

Turkey is by far the strongest power in the Black Sea region - a much stronger army than Russia's, a stronger Air Force and the only Navy to speak of. Putin knows this.

Long-Term, I’m much more worried about Turkey, than Russia.

I have to laugh. Turkey can push “Turkiye” all they want but everyone is still going to call it “Turkey.” “Turkia” might have worked but “Turkiye” is just too alien to English. Sorry about the connection with the bird.

Then Turkey needs to re-do it’s conquest of Constantinople.

Turkey wants Crimea back. A lot easier to take it from the Ukrainians than from the Russians.

“Turkiye” is just too alien to English.

My spell checker flags "Turkiye"--and it's doing it on this post.

They are both equal evils.

Erdogan is heavily opposed within his country, but hasn’t made the same Ukraine type mistake that Putin did - otherwise in 2021 both were on equal internal strength with Putin possibly stronger.

Turkey is just waiting for Russia to be weakened.

Turkey has one thing that Russia will never have. Millions of Fifth Columnists who will support Turkey when they make their move on Europe.

Never heard of the Turkey-Kiev relationship; I’m totally in favor of Chicken-Kiev, however.

TRUE that and they are still mad Russia took Crimea from them many years ago. Crimea has always been Russian and not Ukrainian. It was “given” to Ukraine as an internal border, not a true national border.

Anyone who thinks Russia will willingly give up Crimea is delusional.

I am not a Putin fan, but stating the obvious. Crimea has always been Russian since they took it from Ottoman Empire (Turkey).
