A high school football player from the Florida panhandle died after collapsing during an away game on Friday, school officials said.
Chance Gainer, a senior at Port St. Joe High School, fell to the ground just before halftime during a game at Liberty County High School in Bristol, Fla., Port St. Joe principal Sissy Godwin confirmed to NPR on Saturday.
Gainer was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken to an area hospital, she said. He’d just celebrated his 18th birthday last month.
Gulf District Schools Superintendent Jim Norton said in a statement that Gainer’s death was a “tragic loss.”
"He was a remarkable athlete, a beloved teammate, and an overall exceptional young man who loved Jesus," Norton said.
He described Gainer as quiet “but exuded captivating warmth and genuineness that drew people to him.”
Principal Godwin said of Gainer, “You may not have heard Chance in the crowd, but you could see his smile from across the room.”
School staff, friends and clergy from the small, tight-knit community gathered at the high school after his death to support Gainer’s family, who joined them, the school statement said.
“We want the Gainer family to feel that they are not alone in this heartbreaking moment,” Norton said in the statement.
It’s the latest tragedy in a string of recent deaths of young football players. At least seven other athletes in middle school and high school programs died last month, at practices, games or after practice and many under hot weather conditions. Two of the deaths involved head injuries.
Vaccination status?
Sure odd how our fighting-aged men are dying.
Condolences to family and friends of Chance Gainer.
Still can’t find any credible reports of this happening to an UN-Vaccinated 18 year old.
It’s become common, so must be normal.
My question is: Did things of this nature (young people collapsing/dying while in engaged in a demanding physical activity or sporting event) happen prior to the vax but was not widely publicized because it was an extremely rare event?
Or, since the vax, has the number of young people dying in these incidents increased dramatically which might be an argument that there is a “cause and effect” between the vax and young people dying?
My money is on the Kill Shot aka Covid vac.
This happens every year around the beginning of football season...Heat related or intense practices at this time of the year...
Coaches and schools just need to be aware of their players and students conditioning when undergoing strenuous exercise....

Lots and lots here, long before there was any Covid or Covid vaccine:

You can say that again.
The latter.
Here are some answers of deaths by age group over years. It appears the premature death rate has been on a steady rise, some of which predates the vax. I only spent a few minutes looking at the graphs, it appears there are more causes for the increasing rate than just the vax.
Day game? Night game? Hot, humid?.playing offense and defense? Did he have a pre season physical to rule out cardiac problems? Subclinical myo- or per-carditis? Dehydrated? Brain or aortic aneurysm? Cranial trauma?
COVID vaccine? Psychotropic performance enhancing drug use?
No one will follow the autopsy results, so we, the consumer of news, will ever know.
Can’t play sports if you don’t get the jab.
It is still very hot in Florida. Perhaps the frequency of this happening is greater, but it certainly has happened in the past
it happened due to heat exhaustion or undetected heart conditions well before for the vaxx came along and made matters worse.
Since the vaxxes came along, public school athletes get far more complete physicals these days than they used to get.
Whyever would that be, do you suppose...
You’re right... The question is how much worse.
